Young Alumnus Award

The true measure of a university’s success can be found in the achievements of its alumni. In this regard, the Alumni Association would like to announce the start of nomination for the Young Alumnus of the Year Award 2017. Starting from 2007, this annual award aims to recognize young QU graduates who have gained unique distinction through their accomplishments and to focus attention on their achievements. This, in return, promote QU image on the local, regional and international levels.

This award is given annually to an alumnus who graduated from QU. The nomination starts from 15th May until 31st August 2017. A specialized committee will consider all applications in June to choose the best candidate. The winner will be announced and awarded during the Annual Convocation at the beginning of the academic year.

To be considered for the Young Alumnus of the Year, an individual must meet the following criteria:

  1. Emerging Leader: The recipient should demonstrate initiative and unique accomplishments beyond normal expectations, demonstrating creativity, resourcefulness, extraordinary intellect and perseverance.
  2. Outstanding Development: The recipient should exemplify outstanding professional and personal development either through traditional channels or innovative approaches.
  3. University Supporter: The recipient should be an active supporter of the university and should display visible involvement through volunteer efforts, financial giving, and/or enhancement of QU's image and reputation.
  4. Reflection of University Ideals: The recipient should, in deed or action, reflect the ideals of a QU education and live the mission and values of the university in his/her personal life.
  5. Inspirational Qualities:Must be a person of such integrity, stature, demonstrated ability and renown that the faculty, staff, students and alumni of QU will take pride in, and be inspired by his or her recognition.
  6. Candidate should be graduated in 2 years and not exceed 10 years since graduation
  7. University employees are not eligible to apply for the award

Khawla Mortazawi

The outstanding career of our graduate Khawla Murtazawi dates back to 2007 when she obtained her BA Degree in Media (with Distinction).  She joined our QU’s Department of Communication and Public Affairs where she served in many QU media committees shouldering the responsibility of tailoring and implementing media plans and boosting students’ role in the Institution’s media activities and events.
During the course of her career, Ms. Khawla achieved many accomplishments including but not limited to:

  • Honored and recognized by the Alumni Association in 2015 for achieving Media Chapter’s award which she has been chairing since 2014.
  • Honored  by Minister of Youth and Sports in 2015 in recognition of her Movie  "Dreams Never End",
  • Honored by Al Jazeera Tenth International Documentary Film Festival on her Film (Souq Waqif: Fragrant of the Past).
  •  Qatar’s representative in the USA based   International Visitor Program 2016.
  • Published her first book (Ink Feather) in 2016, which includes 45 different articles on life, media and religions.
  • Columnist in three dailies: (Ink feather) in Al-Watan newspaper, (Leaving Inside) in the Saudi daily “Al-Youm”, and specialized religious articles in the International Newspaper “Beth”.

Ms. Murtazawi holds active membership in a number of media committees and centers. She is a founding member of the Arab Council for Social Media, a founding member of the National Center for Media Training, a founding member of the Qatari-American Association for Cultural Programs, and finally, a member of the International Public Relations Association.

Maha Ali Alfhidy

The journey of our graduate Maha Alfhidy, began in 2010 when she received her BA Degree in Geography / Urban Planning. Ever since that date, Maha has held many positions during her professional career. She served as Deputy Head of the Planning Requirements Unit / Urban Design Department. She also worked as Deputy Head of the Rail Projects Team. Currently, she works as an urban planner in the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
During the course of her career, she has achieved many accomplishments including:

  • Cost reduction of Doha Metro Project and other road construction projects projects by approximately QR 10 billion in 2015 and 2016.
  •  She Obtained “ Excellent  Rank “  in her Performance Appraisal  System  during her tenure in the Ministry of Municipality and Environment for four consecutive years.
  • Al Fahidi is an active member in many specialized teams such as the Land Acquisitions Metro Project Team since 2012, the Rail Joint Working Group (JWG) since 2014, and a member of the study team of the Metro Stations and Surrounding Areas Plans (SAP) since 2014.
  • Member of the Interim Action Plan Team for the buses of Qatar 2014 - 2022 since 2014,
  • Member in the Expressway Projects Team, a member candidate of the Urban Planning Department to study all the Metro project requirements since 2012,
  • Member in Globalizing Accounting Society
  •  Representative of the Department of Urban Planning in  Qatar International Conference and Exhibition for Sustainable Development (Sustainability National Project),
  • Representative of the Department of Urban Planning in the Central Planning Office for Rail projects and Expressway Projects since 2012.


Saleh Hamad Al Marri

After his graduation from Qatar University in 2002, Saleh Hamad Al-Marri became a prominent volunteer member of the Industrial Advisory Board at the university’s College of Engineering, where he provided considerable support to the University and the College. This culminated in a solid partnership being secured with Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and Siemens, which led to the establishment of a Professorial Chair in energy efficiency.
In his current position as Head of Renewable Energy Technologies Section at Kahramaa, he is working on a Smart Networking Technologies Project with the aim to transfer and implement these technologies at QU. This and his active involvement with the institution led him to become Qatar’s primary representative in a number of international committees such as: committee member and member of Renewable Energy Strategies Team of the Arab League; committee member of Renewable Energy and member of the Energy Efficiency Study Team of the Arab Union for Electricity; and member of the Energy Experts Team of the International Renewable Energy Agency. Additionally, he achieved first place certificate for Best Project Plan in Qatari Entrepreneurs 2015.

Sultan Naif Al-Thani

The professional career of Sultan Naif Al-Thani, Qatar University graduate, Class of 2011, began with his achievement with honors -- major in Finance, minor in Accounting -- from the College of Business & Economics, where, throughout his academic tenure, he was employed at Emiri Diwan Public Relations Department. Post-graduation, he worked at Qatar National Bank (QNB), where after one year; he was recruited to undertake management responsibility for product development at Qatar Credit Bureau of Qatar Central Bank (QCB).
He then rose to the position of Assistant Manager in the Financial Risk Management Department and later moved to the position of Manager at Barwa Bank Enterprise Risk Management Department. Added to this, Sultan performed teaching duties at Qatar University after attaining his Master’s degree in Islamic Finance from Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies.
Sultan also successfully fulfilled his national military service where he achieved the rank of Company Commander, proving his ability to inspire team spirit and camaraderie, and leading his team to a number of award successes.



Al Anood Sa'eed Al Misnad

Al Anood's athletic career began ever since she was a student at Qatar University, when she chaired the Students Sports Club of the College of Education, and launched her career in the sports track. After receiving her BSc Degree in Physical Education and Sports Science from Qatar University in 2010, she worked as a coach for Al Sadd Women's Team, where the team ranked first in the Education City Championship. Later, she moved to coach the First Alumnae Football Team, and gradually assumed many positions till she has become General Coordinator of the Initiative " Il'Ab We' Yana" organized in collaboration with Qatar Football Association and FC Barcelona Foundation. She also served as member in several committees including the Women's Committee of the West Asian Football Federation, Qatar Women's Sport Committee (QWSC), and Women's Football Committee in Qatar.
Essa Ali Al-Manai A successful career as Chair, Institutional Safety Affairs, Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation, Essa joined Reach Out to Asia (ROTA) as Senior Manager, Operations, was promoted to the position of Acting Director, and later appointed as CEO. He graduated from Qatar University, with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and obtained an MBA from Newcastle University.
Active in voluntary and charitable work, he was named "Best Volunteer" during the 2005 West Asian Games in Doha.
Amena Abdulaziz AL-Kaabi
On graduating from Qatar University with a BSc Degree in Physical Education & Sport Sciences, Amena worked as a P.E. teacher, and later as a trainer of trainers, providing courses in Standards of Physical Education to teachers at independent schools.
She participated in Schools Olympic Day as coach and referee of many of the event's games and activities. In 2009, she was ranked first in soccer training for four consecutive years at the primary school level. She also received the Sport Excellence Award 2009. In addition to her participation in many sport leagues and contribution to many periodicals.
Amena has been involved in many voluntary activities. She is a member of QU Alumni Association and Vice-Chair of the Sports Chapter. She has participated in many sport tournaments and competitions through different QU alumni sport teams and was ranked first many times.
She currently works in QU's Activities Departments as a coach.
Hessa Al Nasser Hessa graduated from Qatar University College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Mass Communication in 2011, majoring in Public Relations and Advertising. She currently works in the Public Relations Department at RasGas.
She also chaired " Maraya Shababiya" Magazine.
Her graduation project entitled " My Book My World" helped promote reading among children in Qatar.
Maha Mansour Al-Thani
Maha obtained her BSc in Education and MA in Educational Leadership from Qatar University. She started her career as a teacher of English and later as class teacher, assessment coordinator, and program coordinator. She is currently Deputy Principal for Academic Affairs at Raba'a Al Adawiya Secondary Independent School for Girls.
Amal Sharhabeel Elatawneh Amal graduated from Qatar University with a BSc in Computer and an MBA. As an undergraduate, attended and presented at several conferences, and with her classmates, won 2nd place in the Professional Category of the Al Fikra Competition. She also worked in the Student Information System, Office of Vice President for Student Affairs, and later became a full- time employee, occupying the the positions of Application Support Assistant, Application Support Specialist, Systems Analyst, and is currently Student Records Section Head in the Registration Department.
Sameera Alqassimi
Sameera entered the field of voluntary work and disability services at very early stage of her career. She has dedicated her entire career to the service of people with disabilities, and believes that services provided to those with disabilities should not only be limited to traditional therapeutic services , but should also include public awareness and community integration. Her efforts in this regard were extended beyond Qatar in which she contributed towards the establishment of several societies, foundations and organizations. This culminated in her being selected to deliver the inaugural speech before the United Nations General Assembly to mark the dedication of an International Day for Autism Awareness.
Reem Alali Reem graduated from Al-Bayan Secondary School with 95% GPA, and joined Qatar University to study industrial and systems engineering. She joined Dolphin Energy in 2006 as SAP plant maintenance specialist. She is currently Acting Head SAP applications in the department of ERP &Applications..
Eman Khalil Hassan Nathar Haji Iiman obtained her BSc in Math's and Education at Qatar University. She later got her MA Degree from Saint Joseph University majoring in Educational Leadership and Special Education. Since graduating, she has occupied various positions, the current being Head of QU Special Needs Section.
Wadha Al Sulaiti Wadha graduated from QU Department of History and has occupied many administrative positions and is a fashion designer and plastic artist. Currently, she is the Director of the Office of the Acting Minister of Culture, Art, and Heritage.
Mohammed Sadoon Al Kuwari
A Sport Science graduate, Mohammed occupied a number of positions and took part in establishing a number of satellite TV channels such as al Jazeera Sport and Al Kass Sport Channel. He currently works for Al Jazeera Sport as program producer and presenter.
Latifa Dasman Ali Al Kuwari Latifa graduated from the Biology Program and obtained Diploma in Primary Education from QU and Texas A & M University at Qatar. She currently teaches at Al Shaqab Primary Independent School and is the Coordinator of Friends Program at Al Shafallah Center.
Dr. Hayat Nathar
Hayat graduated from QU Arabic Language Department. She obtained her Master's Degree in General and Special Education from Saint Joseph's University – Pennsylvania, and her PhD in Managing Education from the same university. She is now Director of Al Noor Center for the Blind.
