Minor in Translation to Be Offered at CAS
CAS Department of English Literature and Linguistics will offer a Minor in Translation to students from all QU majors, starting Fall this year. The new Minor is designed to develop translation skills for students interested in acquiring an advanced level of proficiency in Arabic/English translation.
It aims to develop students’ awareness of the cultural and linguistic challenges involved in translation as well as to prepare them to pursue advanced degrees in the field. Courses offered will focus on training in translating a variety of authentic texts that appear in print or in other oral, aural or visual media. Texts will address topics related to international crises, cooperation, development and government structure. Other texts on topics related to international relations, law, journalism, social sciences and the humanities will be the subject of specialized courses.
Students interesting in joining the course should have completed four semesters at the undergraduate level by the end of spring 2012; possess TOEFL of 500 or equivalent, and pass the Arabic and English admission test which is scheduled for June 17 at 10:00am-12:00noon. Results will be announced on June 24.
