MOU to Advance Human Rights Initiatives
2012-06-06
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed yesterday between College of Law  (LAWC) and the Ministry of Interior (MOI) Department of Human Rights will  foster closer relations between the two partners.

LAWC dean Dr Hassan Okour and the MOI department’s head of research and development Major Saad Salem Al-Dosari (on behalf of the director Abdulla Al-Mohannadi) signed the one-year renewable agreement in the presence of LAWC faculty and students and MOI staff.

Through this MoU, the two parties will collaborate closely on a number of activities including workshops and seminars on human rights, training for QU students, organizing conferences on human rights issues and continuing education programs by QU for staff at the  MOI department.  Additionally, several LAWC students will be given the opportunity to embark on semester-long externship placements within the department.

Commenting on the MOU, Dr Okour said: “This is an important initiative the key part of which is the training of our students.  There will also be collaboration on research projects undertaken by our faculty members and staff at the Human Rights Department, and there will be continuing education programs for lawyers and presentations for students about human rights in Qatar and the rules and regulations that govern this subject.”

Major Al-Dosari said: “This MoU will provide further cooperation between our two organizations.  It is motivated by the initiatives on human development within the Qatar National Vision for 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2011-16.”
