Best Paper Award for CENG student at SISAP
2014-12-25

Congratulations to CENG MS in Computing student Wadha Jabir Al-Marri for winning the Best Paper award at the 7th International Conference on Similarity Search and Applications (SISAP) 2014 which was held on October 31 at Los Cabos, Mexico.

The student was awarded for her project entitled “The Similarity-Aware Relational Intersect Database Operator”, which was presented among 45 student papers from 18 different countries. The paper is based on the student’s thesis which is supervised by the director of QU KINDI Lab for Computing Research Prof Qutaibah Malluhi.

The study suggests an essential operation in many applications such as bioinformatics, pattern recognition, and data integration. It explains the semantics of the set intersection operator to function over similar values, describes the semantics of the similarity-based set intersection operator, and develops an efficient query processing algorithm for evaluating it.

CENG dean Dr Rashid Almmarri said: “We are proud of our students’ active participation and distinction in world class competitions. This shows CENG’s commitment to providing its students with the opportunity to excel, develop their potential, and achieve their goals.”
