CBE students engaged in innovative multimedia competition

Student projects dealing with issues such as corporate social responsibility, QU parking concerns, and various management styles won first, second and third place respectively among eight submissions in a competition organized by CBE in collaboration with Vodafone Qatar on December 23.

The competition led by the Department of Management and Marketing Community Outreach Committee (COC) was themed “Compete, Show your skills & Get rewarded”. It aimed to motivate and encourage students to deliver their course projects in a creative and challenging way. Topics from the other student teams included managers and management; external environment; decision-making, planning, organizing, leading, and controlling; individual behavior; and managing groups and teams.

The projects were judged by a jury panel comprising CBE professors Dr Ahmad Alamro and Dr Yasir Yasin Fadol, as well as Vodafone Qatarization Manager Haeefa Al-Malki, Head of Strategic Relationships Eugene McQuaid, and Business Sales Manager Sherif Hindi.

Winning students received a certificate signed by CBE and Vodafone Qatar, as well as smartphones from Vodafone.

College of Business and Economics dean Dr Nitham Hindi expressed his pride in the students’ achievements which he said proved their skills and ability to create innovative projects, and compete in the labor market. He added: “This shows QU’s commitment to encouraging students to participate in high-quality contests, and in offering them an efficient environment that creates a spirit of competition and innovation in business areas, in line with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.”

Community Outreach Committee Chair Prof Marios I Katsioloudes, said: “COC has as its mission to bring the community closer to the University and vice versa. Our students yesterday created a link between the community and QU by presenting high quality and impressive projects in front of judges and a larger audience from QU and Vodafone alike. We as educators are striving to make sure our students get exposed to a high quality of educational challenges.”

Chair of Management and Marketing Department Dr Rana Sobh said: “We provide our students with opportunities to work on real projects and have hands-on experience. I amimpressed by the level of our students’ enthusiasm and competency. The event provided a platform for further initiatives that engage our students with the business community and prepare them for the job market.”

Qatarization Manager at Vodafone Qatar Haeefa Al-Malki said: “We are very happy to have taken part in this competition for QU students especially when it falls so perfectly in line with our steadfast commitment to continuously engage with our community and support our country’s academic initiatives. Over the course of the past two weeks, our colleagues have joined the QU jury panel to evaluate a number of projects, which were diligently crafted by the students and presented in very creative ways. It was inspiring to see their passion and efforts, and we would like to congratulate all the winners who truly deserved to be recognized, along with all the others, for their hard work.”
