Winners of MIE Fall 2014 competitions announced

Mechanical and industrial engineering students presented their Fall 2014 projects at Mechanical Design Day on January 1 and Industrial Design Day on January 8.

Sponsored by QAPCO, ExxonMobil and Delta Doha Corporation, the two events featured 13 projects by 30 mechanical engineering male students, and 4 projects by 11 industrial engineering female students.

In the Best Presentations Awards category, Mohammad Khaleel Abubasha won 1st place for his project “Artificial hip implant design”, supervised by Dr Elsadig Mahdi while Abdellatif Sadeq and Mohamed Elgergawi placed 2nd for their project “Development of new induction manifold designs for high efficiency and low emissions internal combustion engines”, supervised by Dr Samer Ahmed. 3rd place was awarded to Fadi Brigui, Mohamed Mohamed and Mohamed Farag for their project “Design of Caravan Chassis with Sliding Mechanisms”, supervised by Dr Faris Tarlochan.

Abdellatif Sadeq and Mohamed Elgergawi won 1st place in the Best Poster Awards category for their project “Development of new induction manifold designs for high efficiency and low emissions internal combustion engines”, supervised by Dr Samer Ahmed. Mohammad Khaleel Abubasha placed 2nd for his project “Artificial hip implant design”, supervised by Dr Elsadig Mahdi while Mouath Siam and Rabah Nasereddin won 3rd place for their project “Improving The design of the fuel injection system for lower fuel consumption diesel engines”, supervised by Dr Elsadig Mahdi and Dr Samer Ahmed.

CENG dean Dr Rashid Al Ammari expressed his gratitude to the events’ organizers who helped students in their projects, adding, “Our students have demonstrated the level of academic distinction and quality for which QU is well-known. This shows CENG’s commitment to providing its students with the opportunity to excel and achieve their goals, and guide them to becoming future engineers and contributing to the Qatar’s growth and progress.”

MIE Acting Head Dr Elsadig ElMahdi said: “These events have shown our students’ will and efforts to come up with high quality and innovative projects, which proves QU’s ongoing mission in shaping future leaders and professional who will actively contribute to country’s outstanding development, in line with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.”
