Framework for Research on Railway Engineering

Research Aim

The aim of this project is to develop a framework for initial research on railway engineering at Qatar University in collaboration with Qatar Rail. Qatar Rail will provide data, industrial insight for the research work, and help with logistics for testing needed for the project. The research will tackle contemporary issues on railway engineering through academic work. The duration of the project is two years starting on 16th of October 2017 with a grant reference of QUEX-CENG-Rail 17/18.

Research Activities

The research work comprises the following activities:

  • Conducting research investigations at graduate level on the behavior of slab and ballasted tracks and the impact on the current environment.
  • Carrying out undergraduate student work at senior design level to investigate, plan and assess the merits of different designs of railway tracks for future rail projects including the future links to GCC network. The work will also investigate issues with operation and maintenance.
