Graduate Studies Awards

These awards celebrate outstanding graduate students who have distinguished themselves with their thesis or dissertation or participation in the 3 Minute Thesis Competitions.

As a part of the activities for the Qatar University Annual Research Forum & Exhibition 2019, the office of Vice President for Research and Graduate studies would like to announce the open of applications for the Graduate Studies Awards in three categories. Awards will be announced at the Annual Research Forum & Exhibition in 23 April 2019.

Award Categories

Category 1 Outstanding Thesis/ Dissertation Award opens to master and PhD students who have successfully passed the oral defense examination, including students who defended in Spring 2018. Guidelines
Category 2 Graduate Research Award opens to graduate students who have a research paper accepted at reputable international conference, including those who graduated in Spring 2018. Guidelines
Category 3 The 3 Minutes Thesis (3MT) Award; the 3MT competition is a live competition in which graduate students have three minutes to present their research in front of a panel of judges. With only one static slide (no other props or visual aids may be used), students are challenged to present their research findings in laymen’s terms to a general audience. Guidelines

Each award will include:

  • Category 1: A certificate and trophy recognizing the top application from each of the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business and Economics, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Health Sciences, College of Law, College of Pharmacy and College of Sharia and Islamic Studies.
  • Category 2: Certificate and Funding to participate in an International conference.
  • Category 3: A certificate and medal recognizing the effort for the first, second and third best presentation.


  • Categories 1 and 2:
    The deadline for application packages to be submitted to the program coordinator in each relevant college is Sunday Feb 17, 2019.
  • Category 3:
    • The deadline to register for 3MT competition is 3rd Feb 2018. To register. Please visit Graduate Studies Office, Research Complex, H10, Room G201
    • To enter, please sign up in person at the Office of Graduate Studies G201 Research Complex (H10) no later than 10:00am on 28th February 2019.
    • The live presentations are on Monday, March 25, 2019 from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm in the Research Complex, Building H10, Room 119 (presentations will be filmed as well)
