The Early Childhood aims to prepare educators and other professionals in the field of early childhood to work with young children in a variety of settings. The major goals of the program are for it's graduates to:

  1. Recognize the unique nature of the early childhood years, and their consequent implications for teaching and learning.

  2. Understand the relationships between society, culture and childhood and to incorporate that knowledge into their professional practices.

  3. To engage in teaching and assessment practices that promote depth of understanding and problem solving rather than mere curriculum coverage and that recognize children's individual differences and special needs.

  4. To create programs for children that recognize the critical role of the family and community in children's lives.

  5. To recognize the pivotal role that they themselves play in children's lives as educators and partners and

  6. To emerge as world class professionals, who can be held accountable to the  highest standards of professionalism and pedagogical knowledge.
