Dear Visitors,
Since its establishment in 1980, the College of Engineering has been the leading college at Qatar University. This is simply because the economy of Qatar depends mainly on engineers. Our college has graduated engineers who are currently filling high positions in different parts of Qatar as high as ministers and vice presidents to several executive directors and section heads in different industrial and governmental entities.
His highness the Emir has recently announced the new vision of Qatar, namely “Qatar National Vision 2030” which rests on four pillars: Human development, social development, economic development, and environmental development.
The college of engineering is working hard to develop professional engineers who can lead the economic development in Qatar in a responsible manner towards the society and the environment. Hence, an engineering graduate is well suited to help in achieving the country vision. It is clear that the future is engineering!
More specifically, our country’s economy is based on natural gas, which is the driving force behind the huge growth in construction that you witness when driving through the City of Doha, and the huge expansion in industrial areas in Ras Laffan, Mesaied, and Dukhan. All of this depends heavily on engineering disciplines and practice. Moving to knowledge based economy that Qatar is targeting, engineers will play key roles in establishing the required information and communication infrastructure while transferring current industrial activities to be knowledge based as well. Through this unprecedented growth, all engineering majors will be sought after by industry to build, maintain or improve various activities.
Our engineering graduates are also suited to work in cross cultural environments as many international companies have presence in Qatar and participate in the industrial revolution. Hence, the College of Engineering at Qatar University is looking for those students who would like to be part of such change and be prepared to lead our economy.
