The event brought together representatives from many industry and government agencies such as AH Asociados, Albaker Architects, Arab Engineering Bureau (AEB), ASTAD, British Embassy, Cambridge Training and Consultancy, ConocoPhillips, Dolphin Energy Limited, Ericsson, HBK Contracting Company, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Hochtief, IBERDROLA, Lusail, Oryx GTL, Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Qatargas, QDRJ, Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO), Qatar Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Qatar Chemical Company (Qchem), Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO), Qatar Robotic Surgery Center (QRSC), Siemens, Total Qatar, and United Consultant Qatar (UC-Qatar). They had the opportunity to exchange their ideas and experiences on different research areas related to ICT, energy and environment, biomedical and health, and arts and social sciences.

The event’s program included a presentation on CENG’s multidisciplinary research priorities presented by Prof Abbes Amira, and presentations delivered by Dr Munir Tag and Dr Aiman Erbad. Highlighted topics were ICT, materials and nanotechnology, energy and environment, biomedical engineering, and infrastructure and livable environments.

In his remarks, Dr Khalifa Al-Khalifa said: “This event is part of CENG’s preparation for the National Priorities Research Program (NPRP) 10th cycle, and a testament of QU’s commitment to strengthen collaborations between academia and industry in Qatar. It also aligns with CENG’s ongoing efforts to provide services that fulfill the requirements and needs of the local business and industry. This will contribute to promoting the existing research activities between academia and industry, while advancing further partnerships between both sectors in the field of research, which will benefit the society in Qatar and the region.”

Dr Munir Tag said: “I am very pleased to attend this university-industry network event, it is timely and needed. QNRF has been funding research over the last ten years where the focus was on building capacity, capability and infrastructure. We are now focusing on research impact on the economy and the society in Qatar. I found the discussion among academia, business and government representatives extremely useful. Such interaction will help in addressing problems and challenges through our research funding programs and lead to more innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities in the country that will contribute to building a knowledge-based economy.”

Prof Abbes Amira said: “This event highlights the spirit of collaboration between academia and industry, and its crucial role in providing outstanding outcomes that address needs related to academics and stakeholders.”

Dr Aiman Erbad said: “The research sector at QU is building platforms of collaborations between researchers and industry to help QU researchers develop the industrial sector, its services and products. The role of industry is important to guide the research towards finding solutions for today’s challenges.”
