Research Clusters
Over the past decade, computers have profoundly affected all aspects of our lives. Computing technologies are constantly evolving and advancing at an incredible pace. The state of Qatar has, in recent years, emphasized the role of information and communication technologies (ICT) in shaping its economy. The discipline of computer, information science and engineering has a key role to play in realizing the country’s aspiration of establishing a knowledge-based society. This field has been recognized as one of the main research focus areas in the country (together with energy & environmental as well as biomedical research). This can be demonstrated by the recent establishment of the Qatar Computing Research Center (QCRI) as a national institute for conducting computing research, the wealth of CISE-related initiatives and activities at the Qatar Science and Technology park (QSTP), the computing track (out of four tracks) of the 2010 Qatar Foundation Research Forum, and the recent establishment of the MADA center (Qatar’s innovative assistive technology center) by ictQATAR.
