| About Event | The chemical engineering department at Qatar University organized the 2011 chemical engineering Majlis on Saturday 18th June 2011 in the Sharq Village & Spa Hotel with the generous sponsorhip of Shell. This important event aimed at reinforcing the strong bond between the department and its Alumni was attended by graduates from 1985 to the present time as well faculty members, students, Qatar University senior administrators and representatives from the local industry. The 2011 Majlis event was opened by a speech QU President, Professor Shaikha Al-Misnad who gave a nice overview of the evolution of Qatar University, followed by a speech by Mr Andy Brown, Qatar Shell Country Chairman and Managing Director, Pearl GTL on the global energy outlook and importance of clean fuels. Then, Mr Abdulla Al-Sulaiti gave a keynote speech on his career path that started at QP all the way to the current position as project manager at Ras Laffan. Professor Farid Benyahia, Head of Chemical Engineering department gave an overview presentation on the department growth and its recent achievements in terms of quality education, advanced research and community outreach. Professor Farid Benyahia took this opportunity to thank a number of companies that supported the department over the years and asked Dr Mazen Hasna, Dean of Engineering to give commemorative shield gifts to Mr Ismail Al-Mulla (QAFCO), Mr Dan Coombs (QChem), Abu Bakr Al-Sairi (QP) and Andy Brown (Shell). Qatar Gas was also thanked for its strong support. The discussions that ensued included a great deal of interest in the newly launched Master program in Environmental Engineering. The 2011 Majlis was particularly characterized by the importance of chemical engineering in the national development strategy and the Qatar 2030 vision. |
