| About Event | The Department of Electrical Engineering at Qatar University organized the EE Open Day 2011 on Thursday, 20th October. The event was held at Ibn Khaldoon hall in Qatar University. The event aimed at explaining opportunities offered by the Electrical Engineering program and its new 2011 study plan. The event was used to showcase the talents of current students and Alumni of the program by displaying a selection of their projects to prospective students in order to attract them to engineering in general and electrical engineering in particular. The project works included Gernas 1 solar car which competed in Shell eco-marathon 2011 in Germany and many other exciting projects developed by Electrical Engineering students. The event was also aimed at strengthening outreach efforts and communication between faculty, students, industry and community representatives. The function was honored by the presence of Dr. Sheikha Jaber Al-Thani, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Mohsen Guizani, Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. Mazen Hasna, Dean of the College of Engineering, and several press and industry representatives. A large number of male and female high school students, students from training centers of various oil companies and parents of prospective students also attended the function. Several potential employers such as Malomatia, Kahramaa, Siemens, QAFAC, QChem, Al-Seef, Techno-Q, Doha Cables etc were also present in the open day to interact with the students. The public function was addressed by Prof. Mohieddine Benammar, Head of the Department, Dept. of Electrical Engineering by giving a brief presentation about the department and various electrical engineering streams. Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Mahmoud of Kahramaa spoke on behalf of alumni and industry. Student representatives Ahmed Al-Kuwari and Mai Fetais also spoke on behalf of current students. Later, a comedy show was performed by the students which was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. The open day culminated in cutting a giant cake gifted by the students and light lunch. |
