About Event

The Qatar University Teaching and Learning Awards are to celebrate and recognize individuals who have achieved excellence as teachers at the Qatar University.

The awards are based on evidence of teaching effectiveness and contributions to advancement of QU’s educational programs as implied by the teaching mission of Qatar University. The 2010-2011 Qatar University Teaching and Learning Awards had two categories to recognize outstanding instruction at Qatar University.

A team of two faculty members (Dr Majeda Khraisheh and Dr Farid Benyahia) won the Qatar University Outstanding teaching award for the teaching of the Plant Design courses (CHME 241 and 242). The awards were presented in the Qatar University Presidents’ annual convention that took place in Ibin Khaldoons hall on the 26th of September 2011.
Plant design is the capstone design course taken in the senior year of a chemical engineering student and is divided over two semesters (CHME 421 and CHME 422).

The team was commended for:

  1. Creatively using various active learning strategies and providing evidence that indicated the impact on the achievements of the course outcomes
  2. The use of innovative assessment methods with a combination of diagnostic, formative and summative methods related to learning outcomes
  3. Commendable rubrics clearly stating the continuous improvements used in the courses and ongoing professional development approach.
