Dr. Hisham Eid of the Civil Engineering department won the 1st place Qatar University award for his outstanding research efforts. The award was presented by the university president during the QU’s research forum that took place in Ibn Khaldoon Hall on the 31st of October 2011.
The Qatar University Research awards are to honor the efforts of outstanding researchers at QU. Dr Eid, who is recognized as an international figure in geotechnical engineering, has received a number of other prestigious awards including the American Society of Civil Engineers Thomas A. Middlebrooks award for authoring a paper judged worthy of special commendation for its merit as a contribution to geotechnical engineering. He has been also listed on the Geo-engineer Website as the author of one of the best 10 papers published on the properties of municipal solid waste. Dr. Eid’s research results have been published in well known text books (e.g., Soil Mechanics in Engineering Practice by Terzaghi, Peck and Mesri) and utilized by several geotechnical engineers all over the world.
