What is the QULARC?
The QULARC is a part of the American Corners program in Qatar. There are 384 American Corners around the world, 45 of which are in the Middle East. The American Corners are hosted by local entities; libraries, universities or chambers of commerce. They provide internet access, a small reference collection, and a discussion forum.
In December 2006, Qatar University Library signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Office of Public Affairs of the U.S. Embassy in Qatar agreeing to begin a partnership in the joint information and cultural center known as the "Qatar University Library American Resource Center" (QULARC).
What will you find at QULARC?
The QULARC provides basic print, CD-ROM and DVD Collections about the United States covering: history, arts, literature, American studies, English teaching, English language, government, democracy, and politics. The QULARC circulates information on U.S. Government programs and grants, and educational opportunities in the United States. QULARC also hosts U.S. speaker seminars, lectures, workshops, cultural events, and educational exchange programs and provides coordination and information concerning cultural activities conducted by the Public Affairs Office.
QULARC hosts a variety of activities to bring Americans and Qataris closer together. Programs include U.S. Speakers, Fulbright Scholar seminars, digital video conferences and DVD screenings, exhibits, round-table discussions and seminars.
