QU visits QP for symposium talks
Meeting with Deputy PM and Minister of Energy & Industry QU VP for Research Dr Hassan Al-Derham, members of the Gas Processing Center (GPC) and organisers of the upcoming 2nd gas processing symposium met with H. E. Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry at the headquarters of Qatar Petroleum on October 25 to finalize QP sponsorship of the symposium and update H. E. Al-Attiyah on symposium activities.
Attending the meeting were QU Vice-President for Research Dr Hassan Al-Derham; College of Engineering Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs Dr Boualem Boashash; Head of Chemical Engineering Department and Chair, Technical Program Committee for GPC Symposium Dr Farid Benyahia; Chair, 2nd Annual GPC Symposium Dr Fadwa Eljack; and Symposium Manager Mr Osama Omer.
The group discussed QP's support of QU in the form of the QP Chair at the College of Engineering, its membership in the Gas Processing Center's consortium, sponsorship of the first Symposium and involvement in the Gasna initiative.
Details on the progress of the organization of the Symposium were also presented to H E Al-Attiyah. The symposium will take place at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on January 11-14 2010 under the patronage of the Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The theme of the symposium is "Sustainable Operations of Gas Processing".
The opening ceremony speech will be given by H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of State for Energy and Industry. The opening ceremony will also include presentations of the Advancement of Qatari Gas Processing Award, Excellence in Gas Processing Practice Award, Excellence in Gas Processing Research Award and, the Gasna Award.
The Symposium will be preceded on January 11 by two parallel workshops on GTL technology, and carbon footprinting. A total of 60 papers which are currently under review, were submitted by researchers and experts from Qatar (21), Europe (15), N.America (13), Asia (8) and GCC countries (3). The selected papers will be presented at technical sessions on January 12 and 13 and will later be published by Elsevier publishing company in the book series "Advances in Gas Processing". Conference participants will take part in a post-conference trip to OryxGTL and QAPCO on January 14.
