QU College of Health Sciences receives students from Sultan Qaboos University in Oman

Six female students from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in Muscat, Oman visited Qatar University (QU) for an externship in the field of food sciences and technology as part of a prior agreement to organize student exchange between the two universities. The QU Department of Human Nutrition in the College of Health Sciences allowed the SQU students to work in laboratories and experience the analysis of a number of Qatari dishes in order to know the nutritional contents and their impact on health.

Head of the Nutrition Department at QU, Dr. Tahra El-Obaid commented on the International Student Exchange Program saying the opportunity to continue the program is part of the objective to enhance the academic level of the students. The exchange program between SQU and QU contributes to access of educational content with the purpose of transferring experiences that contributes to the development of students. The program includes active participation in laboratories, workshops and various activities.

During their visit to Qatar the SQU students made educational visits to various medical centers such as Hamad General Hospital, where they were able to see how food is prepared for patients; sports medicine hospital Aspetar; QU’s Central Laboratories Unit and ended with a visit to Qatar Foundation’s Primary Health Care Center.

Assistant Teacher at the QU Nutrition Department, Al-Jazi Al-Qahtani noted that the program is considered one of the most reliable programs offered by the College of Health Sciences due to its positive impact in the exchange of skills and development.

In January of this year, SQU hosted six female QU students at the College of Agricultural and Marine Sciences, which provided an opportunity for students to learn about the different study plans in the nutrition curriculum.
