A Side from the Research Collaborations between QU and RCSI

Qatar University (QU) Health's Research and Graduate Studies Department recently organized a lecture for a delegation from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland (RCSI) on 27 August, 2023, at Ibn Al-Bitar building. The distinguished gathering included Dr. Asmaa Al-Thani, Vice President of Health and Medical Sciences at QU, and Professor Darran O’Connor, the Dean of Graduate Studies at the Royal College of Surgeons, along with several esteemed faculty members from QU Health.

During the lecture, valuable insights were shared regarding research topics and research teams at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, with its distinguished heritage spanning several centuries. It is globally recognized as an institution dedicated to surgical and medical education, training, and research, continually contributing to healthcare delivery, making it a prestigious partner for academic and research cooperation.

The objective of Professor O'Connor's presentation was to facilitate the initiation of vital partnerships with esteemed researchers at the Royal College and enable faculty members at QU to explore new prospects in healthcare and scientific research. The educational goals of the session included understanding the research landscape at the Royal College of Surgeons and empowering faculty members to identify potential collaborators in research.

Mashael Al-Shafai, Director of Graduate Studies at QU Health, stated, “We are glad to collaborate with RCSI and to initiate our dual degree PhD program in Health Sciences, which we started this year. We have two students who will be part of this dual degree and will be supervised by two supervisors, one from QU and another from RCSI. It is a great opportunity for our students to learn from the experience of faculty on both sides, to get the chance to work in two different labs with various facilities, and to learn new research methods and techniques.”

This event holds utmost significance for QU Health as it aims to enhance purposeful research collaborations with the Royal College of Surgeons, thereby strengthening QU's commitment to promoting research excellence, collaboration, and innovation between the two institutions.
