Alumni from QUs Human Nutrition department promote healthy choices

Qatar University’s (QU) College of Health Sciences (CHS) Department of Human Nutrition participates in the nation-wide ‘Back to School’ campaign for the upcoming academic year. The campaign aims to foster healthier school-life practices. It is organized by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in collaboration with several health and academic institutions including CHS, Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar and the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC).

As part of the campaign to encourage healthy lifestyles, alumni from the CHS human nutrition department focused on promoting the importance of daily, healthy food choices, particularly in breakfast, as well as daily exercise for mental and developmental growth of students. This was presented through various fun physical activities, which can be integrated into student’s everyday routine.

Mrs. Mouhdi Al-Hajri, Head of the Nutrition Department at PHCC commented on the important role of Qatari nutritionists in fostering healthier practices with regards to daily nutrition and physical activity. This is particularly important in responding to prominent health issues in Qatar that include anemia, obesity and limited physical activity. As a result, campaigns such as these are an important part of Qatar’s National Health Strategy.

Dean of CHS, Dr. Asmaa Althani commented on the importance of collaboration between prominent health institutions from the Health Cluster of Qatar University and other academic and national health care providers in spreading a positive health care message throughout the country. In addition, she stressed the need to make the concept of a healthier lifestyle approachable for the Qatari community.
