H.E. Dr Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada appointed QUAA President

2017-04-26

The Qatar University Alumni Association (QUAA) recently held the annual meeting of its Board of Directors in which Qatar Minister of Energy and Industry H.E. Dr Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada was appointed QUAA President.

Attendees included QU President Dr Hassan Al Derham, Board members, Manager of Alumni and Stakeholder Relations Rana AlFalasi, as well QU VPs, deans, associate deans, and Chapter leaders.

The event featured the honoring of QUAA former President and Chairman of Friends of the Environment Centre Dr Saif Ali Al Hajari and the former and distinguished members of QUAA Board of Directors.

In his remarks, H.E. Dr Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada said: “In the eyes of its graduates, QU is not just an academic institution that offers academic degrees while contributing to the development of Qatar into a modern nation and to the country’s journey to the future. QU is the "Key of Life" that opens doors for its graduates, giving them access to development, growth and prosperity. Every Qatari household has been directly or indirectly attached to QU. We had a student who walked in, full of hope and ambition; a graduate who walked out, loaded with knowledge and unforgettable memories; a professor who passed down his or her experience to the University’s students; or an employee who contributed through his or her knowledge to the growth and progress of his or her beloved country.”

He added: “I am so proud of being one of QU’s forty thousand (40,000) alumni. For us, QU was a second home. No matter when and where we are, our hearts will always be attached to QU with great affection and gratitude. No matter how busy we might be with everyday worries and concerns, it is our duty to interact with QU and to contribute to its growth and progress through the knowledge that we have acquired during our academic journey. I also take pride in being a member of QU Alumni Association. Since its establishment in 2012, the Association has served as a link that binds together thousands of graduates from all over the world, regardless of their interests, profession and country affiliation. The Association has also succeeded in just a few years to launch a number of outstanding projects that contributed to promoting the positive image of QU graduates. The most important achievement of QU Alumni Association is bringing QU graduates closer to their alma mater that embraced them with care and love throughout their youth. I therefore urge all the members of QU Alumni Association to show more of their achievements and innovative skills. The Association is there for you and will no doubt grow through you and with you. As for graduates who are not yet members, I say: "You are missing a lot!".”

Dr Hassan Al Derham said: “QU graduates are the university’s ambassadors everywhere and we are proud when our graduates are appointed in various positions that have a significant impact on the society and its social and economic growth. QU relies on its Alumni Association to achieve its various strategies and objectives. QU continues to deliver on its mission to become a catalyst for development in the State of Qatar and a key partner in the fulfillment of the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, not only through its various academic programs and research efforts, but also through its efforts in the area of social engagement. QU alumni body totals 40,000 members, which makes them a large segment of the society.”

He added: “Over the past years, QU Alumni Association has organized numerous events and activities with the aim to strengthen links between the University and the wider community and to connect graduates with their alma mater. We hope that the new members of QUAA Board of Directors will work closely with QU Administration Department and its colleges to further promote the spirit of community engagement in the State of Qatar. I would like also to thank the former members of QUAA Board of Directors, and particularly QUAA former President Dr Saif Ali Al Hajari, for their significant efforts to achieve the Association’s goals. We also wish the best of luck to QUAA new President H.E. Dr Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada and to the new members of QUAA Board of Directors.”

Rana AlFalasi said: “QUAA is committed to organizing regular meetings that provide its members with the opportunity to exchange their views and develop various strategic plans. The Association is also committed to organizing a wide range of annual activities that are of the benefit of QU alumni and current students, as well as the wider community.”
