Qatar University Faculty receives British Council Professional Achievement Award

Qatar University College of Pharmacy Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and QU Health Chair of the Interprofessional Education Committee Dr. Alla El-Awaisi has been awarded the Professional Achievement Award in the National Study UK Alumni Awards. This award recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves through exemplary leadership in their professional field. The winner was selected by a judging panel, which consisted of the British Ambassador HMA H.E Mr. Ajay Sharma and British Council Qatar’s director Mrs. Samantha Ayton along with top VIPs from different organisations.

Dr. Alla received her education in the United Kingdom. She graduated with a Master in Pharmacy from Strathclyde University, followed by an MSc in Prescribing Science from the Robert Gordon University and then PhD on Interprofessional Education (IPE) and Collaborative Practice again from the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. In her current role as the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, she provides guidance, support and lead initiatives to enhance students’ learning experience to the best. Dr. Alla established the interprofessional education committee since 2014 and is a leader and active researcher in interprofessional education & collaborative practice. She has led significant IPE initiatives nationally and internationally which gained positive attention from all the stakeholders and been commended locally and internationally. She led the organization of the first Middle East Conference on IPE and Collaborative practice in Qatar in 2015; and won a number of awards related to her research and leadership. She is an active member of the Global confederation for Interprofessional Education & Collaborative Practice and leading the IPE Middle East emerging network. She is also the chairperson of the 10th All Together Better Health conference after successfully leading a bid to host bringing this biennial event to the Middle East for the first time in October 2020!

Vice President for Medical and Health Sciences Dr. Egon Toft congratulated Dr. Alla saying, “We are proud that Dr. Alla El-Awaisi has won the Professional Achievement Award of National UK Alumni Awards 2019-2020 in Qatar. It is an important award, which recognizes an impressive leader in QU-HEALTH. She has distinguished herself through excellence and leadership in her professional field. The announcement shows that talent, hard work combined with a strong passion has brought this achievement to Alla and QU Health.”

Dean College of Pharmacy Dr. Mohammad Diab said, “We are honorably proud of Dr. Alla El-Awaisi for receiving this very well-deserved award. Pursuing high quality work, having exceptional leadership skills and always leaving a significant mark behind them, is what distinguishes our faculty members such as Dr. Alla. This aligns with Qatar University’s new strategic plan that evolves around excellence. I would like to congratulate her again and congratulate the college as every achievement accomplished by a faculty member builds a higher step to the success ladder of our college.”

Dr. Alla commented, “I am honored and feel really privileged to be the winner of this prestigious award in Qatar. It means a lot to me having this special endorsement and recognition for something I am so passionate about and have been working hard on over the last few years. Great appreciation to the British Council for organising such a great initiative and celebrating the achievements of UK alumni. It was truly an amazing and unforgettable night that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I really couldn’t have reached this stage without the fantastic support of many amazing people in my life. I am grateful to everyone who has always been part of my journey who impacted who I am today, from my family to friends, from my mentors to colleagues, from my students to our alumni; from teams I worked in to teams I led, from the universities I studied in University of Strathclyde & Robert Gordon University to Qatar University which provided me with the environment to excel, succeed and deliver an impact.”
