Culture & Arts Chapter in QU Alumni Association marks International Day of the Arabic Language

Culture & Arts Chapter in Qatar University (QU) Alumni Association marked International Day of the Arabic Language with a poetry reading through Webex.

The event featured number of poets from the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at Qatar University, which included; Dr. Mahrous Mohammad, Dr. Mahmoud Kaheel, Dr. Abdelsalam Hamed, Dr. Muhammad Al-Absi. The webinar kicked off with the expression of love towards the Arabic language, in line with the celebration of the International Day of the Arabic Language, the moderator of the event was Dr. Ahmad Haji Safar and the opening speech was delivered by Kholeh Mortaza Mortazawi, President of Culture & Arts Chapter- QU Alumni Association.

Commenting on the webinar, Amna Abdulkarim, Vice President of Culture & Arts Chapter- QU Alumni Association said, “As we mark the International Day of the Arabic Language, which falls on the 18th December every year. Arabic language is enlightening language which represents Arab world, we all being part of this world should be proud of its language and expression.”

“Today we present poetry of our poets which belong to the arts and culture. The aim of this webinar comes in line with the university vision. Such events opens the horizons for students to seek interest in cultural and intellectual energy. At the local, Arab and international levels, it builds bridges of communication with poets, philosophers, artists and writers, which all together connects generations. Students benefit from the experience of these poets and other writers,” Amna added.

For his part, Dr. Mahrous Mohammad, Poet and faculty member of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at Qatar University, said: “The celebration of the International Day of the Arabic Language coincides with the National Day of the State of Qatar, which pays great attention to Arabic. It’s a law to protect Arabic Language, which aspires us to protect and preserve the Arabic language.”

“There is no better way to celebrate Arabic Language as it is celebrated through poetry,” he added.
