Minister of Education & Higher Education Visits QU’s College of Education

on World Teachers’ Day

Under the theme “Thank you, Oh Messenger of Knowledge” and amid Qatar’s celebration of the World Teachers’ Day, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Abdul Wahid Al-Hammadi, the Minister of Education and Higher Education visited Qatar University College of Education. The Minister’s visit came as an appreciation of QU’s educational role as an educational institution founded to train and prepare teachers ever since its inception.

The Minister met the President of Qatar University, Dr. Hassan Al-Dirham, Dr. Omar Al-Ansari, the VP for Academic affairs, Dr. Ahmed Al Emadi, Dean of the College of Education. The Minster also met a group of students enrolled in the Program “Tumoh”, which aims to attract students to join the teaching profession. The Minister also attended some lectures and visited the Students Support Center and other respective facilities in the College.

HE Dr. Al-Hammadi commended the leading role and contribution of the College with regards to providing the educational system with highly qualified and trained education personnel. He also noted that the College of Education is a major partner in the educational sector as it is home for the Program “Tumoh” which aims at attracting students to join the teaching profession. The Minister emphasized that “Tumoh” is one of the leading programs in the field of preparing teachers. More than 274 students have already graduated from this program specializing in various educational areas. The program is currently training 391 students who will join the teaching profession as soon as they graduate.

Commenting on his visit to the college, HE Dr. Al-Hammadi said, “The visit today came as a recognition of Qatar University’s educational endeavors and contributions being the national institution entrusted with preparing future teachers. Those teachers can improve students' academic achievement and boost their sense of national awareness towards achieving Qatar National Vision through creative and innovative education.”

“As Qatar’s future is very much bound to the success of the educational system, the role of the College of Education is crucial as a repository of expertise and an incubator of modern educational thought and its various tracks and specializations. I am proud about this remarkable educational institution and its outcomes which constitute the most important input of the education system in Qatar.” Dr. Al-Hammadi added.

Dr. Hassan Al-Dirham, President of Qatar University said, “We appreciate presence of HE Dr. Al-Hammadi today on this important occasion. We thank him for the on-going constructive partnership between the University and the Ministry. Our efforts are all joint to prepare qualified teachers in accordance with the best teaching and evaluation methods as teaching is now witnessing a great breakthrough.”

Dr. Ahmed Al-Emadi, Dean of the College of Education commended on the great role and the fruitful partnership between the College and the Ministry and the reoccurring meetings, which resulted in developing curricula and achieving a number of important educational decisions.

After meeting with University top Officials, HE Dr. Al-Hammadi attended a lecture on a course titled “Exceptional Students” presented by Dr. Abdul-Naser Fakhro. Touring the College, the Minister stopped at the Learning resources, Learning Support, and Lectures' Halls.
