Will provide care to 1000 orphans

The Volunteerism and Community Service Center launched its upcoming competition titled “Rofaqa” at a press conference held on April 2.

Details of the competition were outlined by QU President Dr Hassan Al Derham and Qatar Charity CEO Mr Yusuf Bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari in the presence of officials from QU and Qatar Charity, and representatives of the local media.

Organized in collaboration with Qatar Charity, the “Rofaqa” competition will be held from April 1 until May 10. It aims to engage QU students in humanitarian work and to encourage them to provide care to 1000 orphans. The competition also aims to develop students’ capacity and skills through workshops in the field of social work and marketing, and to promote the spirit of social engagement among them.

Five student teams from QU will organize a marketing plan, using all means of advertising and promotional campaigns. They will participate in a number of workshops organized in collaboration with QU Volunteerism and Community Service Center. The evaluation criteria include the number of sessions attended by the team, creating marketing campaigns, earning support on social media, organizing events and activities that raise awareness about the “Rofaqa” initiative, and providing care to 200 orphans during a whole year.

The participating teams must prepare a brief report about their achievements. Winners will be announced by the judging committee during the first week of May. The winning team will spend a day with the orphans and will receive appreciation certificates and trophies.

In his remarks, Dr Hassan Al Derham said: “We are pleased to welcome Qatar Charity, Qatar’s largest NGO, which plays a key role in carrying out humanitarian programs in areas of crisis all over the world. Qatar University places social responsibility on top of its values. The University is committed to provide its students with an optimal experience that builds their personality and enables them to lead and create initiatives. We encourage QU students and members to participate in the “Rofaqa” competition.”

Mr Yusuf Bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari said: “We are pleased to launch the “Rofaqa” competition today at QU, the most prestigious academic and research platform in Qatar. We are proud to collaborate with QU in this initiative and I would like to thank QU’s administration for partnering with Qatar Charity in social and cultural projects within the framework of social responsibility. Both institutions are committed to fulfill the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 and to highlight the importance of volunteerism in the learning process. They also collaborated on the organization of many projects and activities, as well as the establishment of the Humanitarian Partnership Office at Qatar University, aiming at engaging youth in social services. We look forward to the successful outcomes of this competition.”

Section Head of QU Volunteerism and Community Service Center Ms Muneera Al-Ali said: “Qatar University is keen to have partnerships and cooperation with influential community organizations such as Qatar Charity. Through organizing such an event, we aim to activate the collaborative agreement signed by Qatar University and Qatar Charity last year and which resulted in the establishment of the Humanitarian Partnership Office on the QU campus, and in the organization of joint programs and projects aiming at supporting young people in general and QU students in particular. As Qatar’s national higher education institution, Qatar University strives to provide high-quality education and to give our students a rich experience full of various activities and experiences that enhance and develop their leadership skills.”
