QU Professor Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award by Venus International Foundation


Prof Syed Javaid Zaidi, Chair Professor of Chemical Engineering and QAFAC Chair in the Center for Advanced Materials at Qatar University, has been honored with the lifetime achievement award for his achievements in the filed of Chemical Engineering by Venus Internation Foundation in a ceremony held in Chennai, India.

The Venus International Research Award for lifetime achievement has been bestowed to Prof Zaidi for his contribution, research excellence and accomplishments in the area of Chemical Engineering in a grand ceremony attended by delegates from more than fifteen countries held in November in Chennai, India. Prof Zaidi holds fifteen patents and patent applications for the new discoveries and inventions to his credit. His achievements include the invention of new process for the removal of heavy metals from wastewater, which are toxic and health hazard. He patented new technology for clean energy device fuel cells for automobiles and backup power applications, which results in the clean environment. He has published extensively and published more than 200 research articles in international journals and conferences. Recognizing his outstanding research record, he has been invited to serve in the Advisory Council of Arab Water Desalination, a prestigious organization of the Middle East. In addition, Prof Zaidi has delivered more than 120 presentations and talks at various international forums, conferences and symposiums and institutions in more than twenty countries. He is the first and only scientist living in Qatar to receive this prestigious award.

The Venus international Research Awards are administered by the Venus International Foundation based in India to celebrate the creative minds of the world, who have outstanding achievements in their profession and committed to finding solutions to the challenges facing the world. The awards are given in the filed of Engineering, Medical Science, Science, Management, Agricultural Science and Humanities and Social Science. Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest and most prestigious among all the categories of awards given by the foundation. This award is given for the contribution to the Fundamental Discoveries, New Theories, or Insights have had an Impact on their own discipline and beyond and cutting-edge achievements.

Prof Zaidi appreciates the support provided by Qatar University for advancing his career and giving the opportunity and resources to pursue this kind of innovative and scientific work.
