The decision to switch to distance education is in line with the goal of Qatar University to reduce the rate of interaction on campus, to slow transmission rates and protect society. Therefore, it is certain that the University understands that there are educational, logistical and technological challenges to these exceptional / extraordinary measures, and for this the leadership of Qatar University and its employees work to support students and society in all ways and means.

Recently, academics at hundreds of higher education institutions around the world are focusing on responding to the short-term turmoil caused by the epidemic; to maintain employee and student welfare during university closures, and to adapt to remotely teach and conduct exams via internet. The magnitude of recent events are almost unbelievable and all these efforts require a great deal of planning, decision making, action and understanding by all.

It is proud to be a member of the Qatar University community, in light of the spread of the global epidemic, our internal community is piecing together, as we work, learn and train remotely. Due to the world around us changing at a brisk speed, it has been on our top priority that the commitment of Qatar University to its students and our society does not change.

The faculty members of Qatar University have been required to submit their lectures remotely, online, keeping abreast of new technologies available in this regard. They also had to figure out how to keep their research programs moving forward in a purely digital environment, where they could no longer routinely access their laboratories, libraries and other scientific resources needed to do their work.

The employees spent long days and nights bringing about a comprehensive change in every area of the university. At the same time, individuals in our biomedical community work non-stop with local and global partners to develop rapid diagnosis, vaccines and treatment options for the emerging virus. The health care providers in our educational hospitals have started to provide all their medical resources and services to cope with the epidemic without any delay.

It is worth mentioning that as part of the University of Qatar’s commitment to its students, employees and academic staff, it has made a number of decisions and taken measures that will support its internal community under the current circumstances, for example: the fee for financial fines resulting from the removal of the semester has been canceled, as University has launched an emergency response grant. This new grant supports early investigations that form the basis for further advanced research and this grant follows a short timeline to accelerate the launch of projects funded due to the current situation.

The University's public service and continual of education center were provided with a series of distance training courses which portray dedication of the university to meet the actual needs of the community individuals and strive to develop their knowledge and skills.

Whether on a personal or professional level, without the need to leave their homes during this period.

The University recently in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment organized a campaign to sanitize and disinfect university buildings and facilities, as part of precautionary and preventive measures to counter the emerging corona virus (COVID-19) and prevent its spread.

Qatar University has rushed to transform the education process from the ground to virtual world, directing all of its employees and faculty to continue education and work remotely without interruption, which had a great role in raising the morale of students and employees, who’s educational and professional purpose did not stop with the occurrence of this pandemic.

We hope that God Almighty will keep us safe during this epidemic.
