Qatar University Renews MoU with Qatar Financial Centre Authority

Qatar University and the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) Authority have recently renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that detailed cooperation efforts in scientific research and education field. The MoU was signed by Dr. Hassan Al Derham, President of Qatar University, and Mr. Yousuf Mohamed Al-Jaida, Chief Executive Officer and Board Member of QFC.

Dr. Hassan Al Derham noted the importance of this MoU in building local capacities in a manner that is consistent with the country’s rabid development. He said, “We continuously seek to strengthen our partnership with QFC through joint cooperation in several initiatives and renewing this MoU will support both organizations to achieve common goals, build strong local capacities and contribute to the development of the financial services sector. Conducting scientific research and enhancing the academic experience for Qatar University students by providing training opportunities from QFC and other partners will lead to the advancement of education and the development of the research sector.”

Mr. Yousuf Mohamed Al-Jaida, said, “We at QFC are committed in our efforts to support youth and education, as we believe that the youth are the foundation of the development and prosperity of the society. An important part of our strategy is to develop the business sector and the financial services in Qatar that are world-class. The MoU focuses on research projects in the areas of finance and taxation that contribute to the creation of a knowledge-based economy. We look forward to working with Qatar University to promote greater collaboration, knowledge sharing, coordination in a number of important initiatives, and conducting more research, events and joint conferences in areas of mutual interest.”

During the ceremony Dr. Khalid Al-Abdulqader, Dean of College of Business and Economics highlighted the success of the joint activities that took place under the previous memorandum, which included training more than 2500 students in Tax Awareness Development Program. Other activities include organizing an annual conference on financial policies and conducting a number of joint research papers by QU faculty and students with the support of QFC.

Hamed Al Saadi, Chief Financial Officer at QFC said, “We are excited to work with Qatar University on joint research projects covering tax, finance and economic issues, which will contribute to the development of Qatar’s knowledge-based society. The continuous collaboration between our organizations will provide an opportunity to benefit from the expertise and knowledge available from both sides to enhance our progress and development.”
