Student Counseling Center at QU help students to achieve their goals

Qatar University’s Student Counseling Center, SCC, is a center providing guided consultancy and psychological intervention through the provision of preventive and intervention services including psychosocial support as well as individual and group counseling services.
SCC aims to enhance students’ development, and wellbeing, supporting their psychological needs to help them achieve academic goals and foster their self-development. The SCC serves as a source to help QU faculty and staff interact and deal with students' behavioral issues.
Dr. Mohammed Siddig Mgazoob, Acting Director of the Student Counseling Center (SCC) said: “SCC at QU provides professional psychological support services to students including, behavioral, social, spiritual and emotional problems that interfere with their personal, interpersonal, and academic lives. The SCC commits to supporting students to explore their capacities and potential, to enable them to pursue academic success and attain personal growth, through counseling, psychoeducation, prevention, outreach, assessment, crisis intervention, and referral services.”
“SCC also acts as a resource for faculty and staff to support with their facilitation with students, through consultation, educational programs, and prevention strategies,” he added.
Discussing about the achievements and aims he said: “The Student Counseling Center has succeeded in achieving remarkable progress and development in providing services to students in an effort to help them achieve success. The center has been able to achieve many goals that include increasing the number of specialists and employees in addition to increasing the number of programs. The center extends its collaboration with other departments inside and outside the university to achieve integration of services for students. This development of the center has also contributed to a noticeable increase in the number of students benefiting from the services of the center.”
The Student Counseling Center (SCC) has helped raising the level of awareness among students, helped students to deal and overcome their difficulties and problems, which greatly contributes to preparing them psychologically to achieve their goals and desired success. The counseling center also has been playing an important role in helping to build students' personal capabilities and self-development that help them to achieve the highest levels of success in all academic and life aspects.
The center has set up an organized program through which individual therapeutic sessions are provided to students, and the center will continue the coordination process with the Psychiatric Hospital at HMC by assigning two psychiatrists to the center so that their attendance will be in a regular weekly basis to provide the necessary additional treatment assistance to the students.

“There is also a program of group sessions for treatment and development through which students given the opportunity to learn about a number of methods and aids for their difficulties. The center will provide weekly workshops for students aiming at raising awareness and spreading culture in mental and behavioral health. There is also cooperation with the various departments and centers at the university and outside the university to achieve integration in the specialized services for students,” said Dr. Mohammed Siddig Mgazoob.
Sharing his sentiments towards the center he said that “It is a pleasure to be the director of the Student Counseling Center, and the center will contribute to providing more services to students at Qatar University, which will support their success and excellence.”
