The Middle Eastern Association for Cancer Research (www.meacr.org) was established in 2009 by Dr. Ala-Eddin Al Moustafa to offer a scientific platform for research and collaboration in the field of cancer in the larger Middle East and North Africa. To do so, the MEACR offers two main activities, annual scientific meetings and the Clinical Cancer Investigation Journal (www.ccij-online.org) which is a scientific, peer-reviewed, free and open access journal.
“We look forward to seeing as many people as possible in each annual event because, as a non-profit organization, our success is bound by public interest and the continuously growing members of cancer scientists and clinicians in our association. From our end, we are currently aiming to grow our activities via establishing an online free educational platform that can accommodate the current needs and help advance scientific output and dissemination in our region which will hopefully be ready by next year” Added Dr. Al Moustafa, Prof. at the College of Medicine of Qatar University.
Dr. Asma Al-Thani, the Vice President for Medical and Health Sciences, of Qatar University commented: “On behalf of QU Health, it is my pleasure to offer support for the MEACR, as their aims in building scientific bridges in the region and beyond corresponds with our goals to spread knowledge in key aspects of health concerns, such as cancer. We hope that this event will be successful in attracting many participants as it offers a unique opportunity for professional growth and accreditation in Qatar.”
Dr. Khalid Bin Jabor Al-Thani, chairman of Qatar Cancer Society stressed the importance of collaboration with Qatar University Health and keeping up with international experiences and expertise and taking every opportunity to develop the society’s programmes and plans through participation in all conferences and events within and outside Qatar. This would help enrich its work through the exchange of ideas and visions among specialists from different sectors and interests, and its implications for developing the field of cancer awareness and providing the best ways and services by viewing all that is new in this regard. His Excellency noted that the charity spares no effort to achieve its vision of the community partnership platform for making Qatar a leader in cancer prevention and its burden control.
