Qatar University honors the winners of the Annual Debate Tournament

Qatar University (QU) organized a ceremony to honor the winning students of the 2022 Annual Debate Tournament.
The event was held in the presence of: Dr. Iman Mostafawi, Vice President for Student Affairs, Abdullah Hamed Al Mulla, Director of Student Activities Department and Dr. Mohamed Diab, Associate Vice President for Student Life and Services with a number of administrators and honored students.

This tournament is very important it helps debaters to develop better dialogue, discussion, learning and competition skills. It also teaches teamwork, critical thinking and social skills, which contribute to the development of their personality and ability to speak in public.

Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Iman Mostafawi said: “It was a pleasure to meet you and get to know you all today. We are proud of these distinguished achievements that the Qatar University Debating Club has always achieved, whether on a local or international level. I wish you to achieve more achievements. Make sure you all transfer this experience to the students who will join the debate club in the future. I wish you continued success and further achievements.”

In turn, Dr. Mohamed Diab said: “We are fully confident in our students who represent Qatar University in local and international forums. They are always keen to make Qatar University proud of their achievements. Such participation will enhance their experiences and we wish them success in all upcoming tournaments.”
For his part, Mr. Abdullah Hamed Al Mulla, said: “We decided to hold this ceremony, due to Qatar University’s keenness towards honoring the students who participated in the debate tournament. The Arabic and English language debate club has won many awards, whether at the team or individual level, and these clubs are among the oldest clubs at the university among more than 85 student clubs, and this club has been in existing for 12 years now.”

Al Mulla added: “The Debating Club is keen to participate in local and international tournaments. This year, Qatar University hosted a number of national leagues and championships in cooperation with QatarDebate, and our students achieved many achievements through which they demonstrated their high ability in dialogue, debate and challenge.”

Yaser Al Qawasmi, Section Head of Student Clubs & Organizations, referred to the preparations of the Debating Club team to participate in the International Universities Debating Championship in Arabic, which will be held in Turkey next June, in addition to start planning and preparing to participate in the European Debating Championship in Serbia at the end of next December.

Fatima Al-Nahhas, student and Vice President of the English Debating Club at the university, said: "We are proud of the achievements we have obtained, and this tournament is the first tournament to be held face-to-face after the Corona pandemic, which was held at Qatar University. As for the Sir Syed Championship, in which the Qatar University English Debating Team won first place, this is an international recognition for the university and the debate club, and one of the team members won the award for the best speaker in the tournament. We are proud to represent and raise the name of Qatar University at national and international championships, we thank Qatar University, represented by the Student Activities Department, for its keenness to provide constant support to develop our skills and help and motivate students to achieve achievements.”
