CENG Students Celebrate Wins in Qatar and UAE
Computer science and engineering students Fatma Al-Msaifri, Mariam Al-Ansari, Roqaya Al-Shaabi and Yesmin Halwani, and their supervisor Dr Osama Halabi won the Microsoft Imagine Cup in Qatar for their distinctive innovative project matched by their remarkable technical abilities, creativity, and presentation skills.
Their project “3D-KINDIO” developed a program to assist the visually-impaired by combining hardware and software applications that use Kinect camera, 3D Audio, and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies.
The team will go on to represent Qatar in the Imagine Cup worldwide finals in July in Sydney, Australia.
Also celebrating are the two engineering teams who were named first and second place winners at the awarding dinner of the annual engineering competition for design projects which is held under the secretariat of the GCC Council.
Students Mohammed Al-Saad and Monther Ghafel, supervised by Dr Mohieddine Benammar, won QR20,000 for their project “Design of a Digital Pleural Drainage System”, while students Mariam Hamidani, Laila Al-Ansari, Nada Mustafa, and Zaineb Watan supervised by Drs Farid Benyahya and Majeda Khraisheh won second place in the amount of QR15,000 for their plant design project “Design of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant”.
