OFID 2009 - 2011

Dr. Zakaryya Mohamed Ahmed Abdel-Hady is in the Department of Dawa  and  Islamic Culture, College of Sharia  and  Islamic Studies at Qatar University.  Dr. Zakaryya’s research interests lay in the areas of Islamic Thought  and  Culture, Islam  and  the West, Islamophobia, Women rights, Islamic Civilization, Globalization, Terrorism, environmental studies, Islam and Social Sciences.

During the OFID DAYS Event 2011, Dr. Zakaryya spoke about "Shared Experiences in the fields of Teaching and Learning Outcomes Assessment".

Mr. Hamud Abdulkadir is a Lecturer in the Foundation - Math  and  Computer Program at Qatar University.  Mr. Hamud’s areas of interest are educational technology, innovation and quality. 

"Introduction to Respondus 4.0 – A Tool to Create and Manage Exams" was the topic of his OFID Days 2 presentation.

Dr. Talaat Ahmed is a faculty member in the Department of Biological and  Environmental Sciences, College of Arts and Science at Qatar University.  Dr. Talaat’s areas of interest are Plant Molecular Biology, Genome Mapping, DNA Markers, QTL Mapping and Plant Breeding.   

Dr. Talaat joined with Dr. Hamda Al Naemi  in presenting a session on "Improving Student Learning through Research" for the OFID Days 2 program.

Dr. Khalid Al Ali is the Director of the Foundation Program at Qatar University.  Dr. Khalid established the first Cytogenetics Laboratory at the Hamad Medical Corporation (Qatar) and has several publications to his name in the fields of Cytogenetics and Bioethics.  "High School Outreach Achievement and Challenges" was the topic of his OFID Days 2 presentation.

Professor Ali Abdulmouneam  Ali is the Director of the Core Curriculum Program at Qatar University.  Prof.  Ali is the principal investigator of a research project entitled: "The Role of Qatar University Core Curriculum Program in Improving Students’ Academic Performance, Enhancing their Career Development, and Fulfilling Qatari National Needs" being conducted within the framework of QNRF National Priorities Research Program,  Educational Technology. 

In October 2010, Prof. Ali presented "Preparing a Course Portfolio", a  workshop aimed  at enabling participants to identify the essential components that should be included in a course portfolio, starting with the writing of a learning philosophy up to the self-evaluation of one’s course portfolio prior to its submission. Professor Ali is a frequent presented in the OFID programs.

Professor Ghadnana Al Bin Ali is the Head of Educational Sciences Department in  the College of Education at  Qatar University.
  
Professor Ghadnana delivered a presentation during OFID Days 2 about “Course Portfolio and Curriculum”.

Dr. Moneera Al Ghadeer co-facilitated an OFID seminar for new faculty members about “Inter-cultural Communications in Classroom Settings at Qatar University”. 
 
Dr. Al Ghadeer is Head of Department of English Literature and Linguistics at Qatar University and she received her degree at University of California, Berkeley, USA. 

Dr. Fatima Al Kebaisi is a faculty member in the College of Arts and Science at Qatar University.

At OFID Days 2 Dr. Fatima presented "The Role od Qatar University in Community Service:  Present Reality and Future Dreams".

Professor Aisha Al Mannai is the Dean of the College of Sharia  and  Islamic Studies at Qatar University.  Prof. Aisha is a Member of the Transitional Arab Parliament , the Arab League and a Trustees’ Committee Member for both the State Incentive Award and the Discretionary Award - The National Council for Culture, Arts and Heritage.

"Communication between College of Sharia and the Community" was the title of Dr. Al Mannai's opening day speech during OFID Days 2.

Mrs.  Reem Al Mannai  obtained her BSc in Nursing in 1994 and a Master of Science in Nursing in 1999. She joined the university in 1995. Ms. Mayol obtained her BSc in Nursing in 1976 and was the Head Nurse for the Department of Surgery at the Hamad Medical Corporation prior to joining Qatar University.  While continuing to support the Nursing Program as Teaching Assistant, Ms. Al Mannai assists the QU Pharmacy Program with course planning, delivery and related program activities. 

During OFID DAYS 1, Mrs. Reem presented “A Model for the Utilization of Technology in Teaching & Learning: Demonstrations and Round-Table Discussions with Representatives from the College of Pharmacy”.

Dr. Hamda Al Naemi is the Head of Department of Biological Sciences, College of Arts and Science at Qatar University.  Dr. Hamda’s areas of interest are cardiovascular biology and immunology. 

Dr. Hamda joined with Dr. Talaat Ahmed in presenting a session on "Improving Student Learning through Research" for the OFID Days 2 program.

Dr. Adel Al Tayeb presented a series of workshops targeted to the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies in 2010 at OFID about Statistical Analysis using SPSS software.

Dr. Al Tayeb is an Associate Professor of Statistics in the College of Arts and Science at Qatar University.

Dr. Arslan Ayari  is the Coordinator of the Foundation Computer Program at Qatar University.  Dr. Arslan’s research touched upon numerical simulation.   Frequently during the year Dr Arslan offers courses at OFID about Training the Trainer Using Blackboard.  

For the OFID Days 2 event, Dr. Arslan presented a session  about ‘Useful Features in Blackboard.’ And during OFID Days 1, Dr. Arslan  conducted and interactive poster session "Automated Online Exams in Math Program Using Blackboard" and  spoke about "Integrating Technology in Math and Computer Foundation Courses".

Dr. Farid Benyahia, for the OFID Days 2 and during February 2011,  collaborated with Dr. Majeda Khraisheh  to present "Reaching New Horizons:  Enhancing Student Learning in Engineering Design through Role Pay, Inquiry, Guided Learning and Group Work".

Dr. Benyahia is in the College of Engineering Chemical Engineering Department and has posted his bio-data on http://faculty.qu.edu.qa/farid/.

Mr. Ajmal Chaumun has presented OFID workshops about Using Blackboard 9.

Mr. Chaumun is a lecturer in the Qatar University Foundation Program’s Math and Computer Department.

Dr. Maha Ellili Cherif is a faculty member in the College of Education at Qatar University.  Dr. Maha’s research interests include teacher development and education, learner perception of and attitude to learning, and improving literacy in elementary and high schools.   

Dr.  Maha spoke about "Increasing Student Motivation" for the OFID Days 2 event and joined with Dr Michael Romanowski in the preceding year to present about "Peer Coaching for Improved Teaching". 

Ms. Namrata Das is a Lecturer in the Foundation - Math  and  Computer Program at Qatar University.  Ms. Das was a new teacher trainer and curriculum developer in Washington, DC Public Schools where she developed and implemented a new Summer School Curriculum at The SEED Public Charter School. 

Ms. Namrata’s debut at OFID was during the Second OFID Days in January 2011 when she conducted the "GRE Introductory Support Session" for Teaching Assistants and senior students at QU.   
 

Dr. Ali Eid is a faculty member in the Department of Biological  and  Environmental Sciences, College of Arts and Science at Qatar University.  Dr. Ali is interested in the molecular signaling implicated in the pathogenesis of hypertension and atherosclerosis. Using molecular, cellular and pharmacological approaches, Dr. Eid’s laboratory focuses on the cAMP signaling in human arteriolar smooth muscle cells. The long terms goals of Dr. Eid's laboratory include the identification of novel targets and/or compounds with antihypertensive therapeutic potential. 

Dr. Eid spoke about "Raising the Bar:  Experience from an Undergraduate Laboratory Course" for the OFID Days 2 event.

Professor Fadwa El Guindi  is an Egyptian-born professor of anthropology with a PhD in anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin (1972).  At present she is Distinguished Professor of Anthropology at Qatar University in Doha, Qatar, as well as head of the department of social sciences.

Dr. El Guindi graduated from the American University in Cairo, with a BA in Political Science. She worked at the Social Research Centre and participated in the first full-scale ethnographic project to study the way of life of the Nubians of Egypt prior to their government-sponsored relocation due to the building of the Aswan Dam.
  
Professor Fadwa spoke about “Innovative Use of Visual Technology to Motivate Learning” at OFID.

Dr. Maguy El-Hajj received her educational training at the Lebanese American University (LAU) where she earned a Bachelor of Pharmacy (with high distinction) in 2005 and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (with high distinction) in 2006.  She held the highest GPA at the LAU School of Pharmacy for four years (2002-2006) and was the recipient of LAU President Award in July 2005.   LAU is the only school of pharmacy to be accredited by the U.S. Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education outside of the United States.

Dr. El-Hajj co-presented an OFID Days 1 event entitled:  “A Model for the Utilization of Technology in Teaching and Learning - Round Table Discussions”  with her CPH colleagues.

Dr. Fatima El Motaowa is the Primary Education Diploma Coordinator in the  College of Education at Qatar University.  Dr. Fatima’s research is in areas of supervision reality, learning Arabic language, teaching of reading, writing and artistic tastes, innovative thinking for primary stage students and similar.

At OFID Days 2, Dr. Fatima gave a presentation about  "Field Training and Criteria of Quality".

Dr. Hassan El Sayed is a faculty member in the College of Law at Qatar University.  Dr. Hassan earned his PhD from the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom in 2003. He is currently an Associate Professor at Qatar University. During the establishment of the College of Law, he was appointed as Dean from 2007 - 2010.

Dr. Hassan’s interests include interdisciplinary courses, action research, issues in leadership and critical thinking.  Dr. Al-Sayed is a magistrate of the civil and commercial court in Qatar Financial Center and a Member and Vice President of  the Qatari Bar Association.  Dr. Al-Sayed has a weekly column in  the Al-Sharq Newspaper ( Three minutes law) and has published articles and proceedings in several peer reviewed journals.

"Debating as a Style of Teaching" was the topic of his OFID Days 2 presentation.

Dr. Adil Eltayeb is an Associate Professor of Statistics in the College of Arts and Science at Qatar University.   

Dr. Eltayeb delivered two sessions about Statistical Analysis for the Health Science / Human Nutrition department at CAS during the third week of June 2011.
     

Dr. Mohammad Fawzi Muhiddin is an Lecturer of English in Qatar University Foundation Program. Dr. Fawzi's specialty is Applied Linguistics and he serves as the University Requirements and Adjunct Programs Coordinator.

During the last week of June 2011, Dr. Fawzi teamed up with Prof. Ali Abdulmoneam in presenting a workshop about "Assessing Student Research Proposals" targeted to an English Post Foundation audience.

Ms. Nouran Emara is a lecturer in the Foundation Program, Math and Computer Department at Qatar University.   

Ms. Nouran shares her Information Technology expertise frequently at OFID by offering hands-on workshops about the most recent features of Blackboard.   During OFID Days 1, Ms. Nouran conducted an interactive poster session about "Using Captivate for Assessment and Video Material".
     

Mrs. Shaima Gharaibeh completed a BPharm at the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) in 2003, followed by a MSc degree in Pharmaceutical Quality Control at JUST in 2005.  In addition, Ms. Shaima has received training in a variety of areas including quality control laboratory practices, pharmaceutical stability, analytical method validation, statistical analysis,  interpersonal managing and marketing skills, and related topics.

During OFID DAYS 1, Mrs. Shaima presented “A Model for the Utilization of Technology in Teaching & Learning: Demonstrations and Round-Table Discussions”  with her College of Pharmacy colleagues.

Dr. Ola Ghoneim received her BSc (Pharmaceutical Sciences) at Mansoura University (Egypt) in 1992.  She remained at this university to complete an MSc in Synthetic Medicinal Chemistry in 1998 and subsequently relocated to North Carolina, USA where she completed her PhD in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) in 2005.

Dr. Ghoneim speaks about topics related to Pharmacy at OFID events and co-presented an OFID Days 1 event entitled:  “A Model for the Utilization of Technology in Teaching and Learning”  with her colleagues, the representatives from the College of Pharmacy.   
     

Mr. Nicholas Gromik is a lecturer in the in Foundation - English Program at Qatar University.  Mr. Gromik frequently publishes on the benefit of integrating filmmaking and video editing into the language classroom and regularly offers workshops on moviemaking and video editing using Windows Movie Maker software. 

Mr. Nicholas shared his experiences in a talk for OFID Days 2 entitled "Using iPod and iTunes Technology to Complement Teaching."

Dr. Hafiz frequently conducts workshops at OFID about the "Capstone" projects.
    

Mr. Aladdin Halawani is a lecturer in the Foundation Program’s English Department.  Mr. Aladdin holds an MA in Linguistics and ELT from Leeds University in UK.

For OFID, Mr. Halawani has presented workshops about “Movie-Maker in the English Classroom”.
    

Professor Abdel Majeed Hamouda is the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in the College of Engineering at Qatar University.  Dr. Abdel Majeed’s formidable accomplishments can be seen at:  http://faculty.qu.edu.qa/hamouda/.

Professor Hamouda has given OFID presentations about “The Role of Research in Undergraduate Teaching and Learning”.

Dr. Mazen Hasna is the Dean of the College of Engineering at Qatar University.   At present, Dr. Mazen’s research is specifically focused on cooperative diversity, wireless sensor networks, cognitive radio systems and software defined radio systems.  See his website:  http://faculty.qu.edu.qa/hasna.

Dr. Mazen spoke about "Ways to Boost Research Activities" during the OFID Days 2 events.

Professor Nithan Hindi is the Dean of the College of Business and Economics at Qatar University.  Prof. Hindi’s research interests include assurance of learning (assessment), communication skills, XBRL, and financial issues.  See his website:  http://faculty.qu.edu.qa/nhindi/.

During OFID Days 2, Dr. Hindi talked about "Connecting Theory to Practice at CBE Curriculum".   Several times during each academic  year Prof. Hindi conducts sessions about "Teaching Responsibilities", "Academic  Promotion at QU", and "Promoting Academic Integrity".

Professor Ahmed H. Ibrahim is the Director of the Honors Program at Qatar University.  Dr. Ibrahim’s research and teaching cover the Arab and non-Arab cores of the Middle East with emphasis on politics and diplomacy, Arab-Israeli relations, and American-Arab relations. 

Prof. Ahmed has presented a workshop on "Negotiating an Honors Contract” at OFID.   Dr. Ahmed spoke about "Honors-Colleges Study Plan Strategies" for the OFID Days 2.

Mr. Ali Izzat presents workshops at OFID concerning "Introduction to MS Excel 2007 Statistical Functions".

Mr. Ali is a lecturer in Qatar University’s Foundation Program, Math and Computer Department.

Dr. Bridget Jaweed is the Coordinator of Structured Practical Experiences Program in the College of Pharmacy at Qatar University.  Dr. Jaweed’s research interests focus on the optimization of pharmacotherapy in the institutional and ambulatory settings.

Dr. Bridget spoke about "Mentoring through Community Connections:  A College of Pharmacy Perspective" during the OFID Days 2.  During OFID DAYS 1, Dr. Jaweed co-presented “A Model for the Utilization of Technology in Teaching & Learning: Demonstrations and Round-Table Discussions with Representatives from the College of Pharmacy”.

Professor Peter Jewesson is the Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Qatar University.  His interests lie in Clinical Pharmacy, having had a  clinical cross-appointment to Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre (VHHSC) and held various posts at the VHHSC including the Co-Directorship of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Clinical Service Unit.

"Advancing Pharmacy Education to the Next Level:  MSc Pharm and PharmD Post graduate Degrees at Qatar University" was the title of Dr. Peter’s speech on opening day of OFID’s inter-semester eventsin January 2011.  The preceding year the topic of his speech was  "Applying Innovation and Technology to Enhance Teaching and Learning: The College of Pharmacy Experience".
   

Dr. Hend Jolo is an Assistant Professor of Management at Qatar University and consultant to VPCAO office.  Dr. Jolo is listed in Who’s Who in Business Higher Education.

Dr Hend spoke at OFID events about “Motivation … the Secret Behind Success”.

Mrs. Lijy Jose is a Lecturer in the Foundation - Math  and  Computer Program at Qatar University.  Mrs. Lijy is a PhD candidate at Oklahoma State University, USA, where she earned a Master’s in Electrical  Engineering. 

“Sharing Experience – Excellence in Teaching Using Online Instruction” was the topic of Mrs. Lijy’s OFID Days 2 presentation wherein she described her "Excellence in Teaching" award winning use of Blackboard and other technologies.  Later, in June, Mrs. Lijy joined Dr. Steven Wright in presenting a Blackboard Workshop: "Practical Advice and Support for Exceptional Usage" to all faculty.

Dr. Clayton Keller is the Coordinator of Masters in Special Education, in the College of Education at Qatar University.  Dr. Clay’s research interests include areas of inclusion, the construct of learning disabilities, educators who have disabilities, and international special education.

Dr. Clay, Ms. Eiman Khalil and Mr. John Tribuna jointly presented “Supporting Students with Special Needs at Qatar University” for the OFID Days 2 event.

Dr. Nadir Khair is the Founding Chair of Clinical Pharmacy and Practice and the Coordinator of Continuing Pharmacy Professional Development in the College of Pharmacy at Qatar University.  Dr. Nadir’s research interests are in the areas of health outcomes, ethics and professionalism in pharmacy practice, and the application and evaluation of pharmaceutical care practices. 

During OFID Days 2, Dr. Khair delivered  a presentation about "Introducing Students to Qualitative Research".

Professor Batoul Khalifa is a faculty member in the College of Education at Qatar University.  Prof. Batoul’s interests lie in the areas of Art and Education.  Dr. Khalifa received her Doctorate in Educational Philosophy in 2001 and her Masters degree in Education (Psychology) both from Ain Shams University, College of Education. In 1980 Dr Batoul was awarded her BA in Art and Education from Qatar University.

"Classroom Strategies for Identifying and Helping College Students at Risk for Academic Failure" is one of the workshops that Prof. Batoul presents at OFID.  During OFID Days 2, Professor Batoul spoke about “Small Steps toward Effective Learning in the Classroom”.

Ms. Eiman Khalil is the Section Head of Students With Special Needs, Student Affairs Office at Qatar University. Ms. Khalil’s interests are the Gulf Committee of People with Disabilities, students with visual Impairments and similar.

For OFID Days 2, Ms. Eiman conducted a roundtable discussion “Supporting Students with Special Needs at Qatar University” along with Dr. Clayton Keller and Mr. John Tribuna.

Dr. Majeda Khraisheh  joined with Dr Farid Benyahia during the OFID Days 2, and again in February 2011, to present "Reaching New Horizons:  Enhancing Student Learning in Engineering Design through Role Pay, Inquiry, Guided Learning and Group Work".

Mrs. Kira Litvin is the Library Coordinator for Assessment and Planning at Qatar University.  Mrs. Kira develops and implements strategic planning and user assessment tools to enrich the library’s collection, service and instruction.  

On the first day of OFID Days 2,  Mrs. Kira gave a lively presentation on QU Library and its new directions for 21st century teaching and learning.  In June 2011, Mrs. Kira spoke at OFID about “E-Resources for Humanities and Social Science” and, later that month, about "An Overview of Qatar University Library".

Dr. Amro Maher is a faculty member in the College of Business and Economics at Qatar University.  Dr. Amro’s research interests are in the area of international marketing, with a specific emphasis on consumers’ perceptions of foreign products.

For OFID Days 2, Dr. Amro delivered a talk about "Engaging Students and Instructors:  Issues of Course Design, Implementation and Assessment".

Ms. Katia Medawar is the Head of Public Services at QU Library.  During June 2011, Ms. Katia presented an OFID workshop entitled “Overview of Library” targeted to all of the QU faculty.

Ms.Medawar graduated from the University of Wales Aberystwyth, UK with a Master in Librarianship.  Ms. Katia is a member of the Lebanese Library Association and L'Association des Professionnels de l'Information et de la Documentation (ADBS) in Paris . She published several articles and case studies related to her former jobs. Ms. Katia participated in several projects in Lebanon for promoting librarianship and in the preparation of several conferences organized by the LLA.

Dr. Edward Moad is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy in the ­Department of Humanities of the College of Arts and Science at Qatar University.   Dr. Edward’s research includes philosophies of religions and studies on faith, knowledge and truth, to name but a few. 

With Dr. Patricia O’Connor, he presented "Critical Thinking for Research Skills Across the Curriculum" in multiple sessions during the academic year and for OFID Days 2.

Dr. Maha Nabhan is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics and the Head Of Math and Computer Department in the Foundation Program at Qatar University.   Dr. Nabhan is the AY 2008 - 2009 Winner of the  Award for Excellence in Teaching.  During the 2009 Annual Convocation, Dr. Nabhan was recognized as Most Distinguished Faculty for her invaluable contribution to advancing excellence at the University during the 2008/9 academic year.  Dr Nabhan is a Fulbright scholar with an MSc in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado, Boulder USA and a PhD in Numerical Analysis from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, USA.

Dr. Maha presented an OFID Days 1 session about  "Teaching Excellence".    
    

Mr. Asad Nafees is Section Head of Portal and Web Technologies Information Technology Services at Qatar University. 

Mr. Nafees is frequently consulted regarding web site possibilities and general technology issues.    
    

Dr. Abdou Ndoye is Assistant Professor and Assessment Coordinator in the College of Arts and Science at Qatar University.   Dr. Ndoye's research focuses on student learning, program outcomes assessment and continuous improvement. 

Dr. Ndoye presented an OFID Days 2 session about  "Course Design and Learning Outcomes Assessment".  He frequently presents jointly with Dr. Michael Romanowski and in February 2011 they delivered a multi-session program, including  interactive workshops about "Developing  Courses and Learning Outcomes", "Aligning Class Learning Outcomes with Program Outcomes" and more.   

Dr. Basyouny Nehela is a faculty member in the College of Sharia  and  Islamic Studies at Qatar University.  In addition to a strong scholarship in the different fields of Islamic studies and Dawah. Dr. Basyouny was the head of Muslim American Society (MAS) Tarbiyah department through 2004 -2008.

For OFID Days 2, Dr. Basyouny spoke about “A Day in the Life of a Successful Faculty Member”.

Ms. Bino Sarah Paul is the Coordinator for International Exams Conducted by Foundation Program at Qatar University.  The tests Ms. Bino administers include TOEFL iBT, IELTS, PCAT, ACT, ACCUPLACER and IC3. Organising various training programs, in association with test providers is also part of her mandate. 
 
Ms. Bino spoke about "GRE Introductory Support"  at the January OFID Days 2.

Mrs. Stephanie Pinnacle, Faculty Development and Accreditation Coordinator, is a lecturer in the Foundation Program’s English Department.

Mrs. Stephanie co-presented a workshop at OFID Days 1 with Mr. Justin Richards, entitled “The Accreditation Process at the Foundation Program”.

Professor Malcolm Potts is a faculty member in the Department  of Biological and Environmental Sciences in the College of Arts and Science at Qatar University.  Prof. Potts’ research is in the area of molecular basis for environmental stress tolerance (bacteria to human).   

At OFID, Prof. Malcolm has spoken about "Freshman Undergraduate Seminar". 

Mr. Justin Richards is a lecturer in the Foundation Program English Department.  Additionally, he heads a team of SACS Accreditation facilitators.

Mr. Justin presented, with Mrs. Stephanie Pinnacle, workshops at OFID about “The Accreditation Process at the Foundation Program”.

Mr. Ali Riyahi is on the OIPD team at Qatar Univeristy. 

He has presented workshops at OFID about the  Faculty Performance Review and Development System in both Arabic and English.

 

Dr. Michael Romanowski is the Educational Leadership Master Program Coordinator at Qatar University. 

During OFID Days 2, Dr. Michael presented talks about ‘Moving towards Integration:  Units and Lessons’ and "Increasing Student Motivation".  Prior to that he has given talks  about "Course Design and Learning Outcomes Assessment",  "Aligning Class Learning Outcomes with Program Outcomes", both in liaison with Dr. Abdou Ndoye, "Teaching Non-Majors: Teaching Strategies that Improve Learning" and many more.

Professor Ashraf Salama is the Chair Professor in Architecture and the Founding Head of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at Qatar University.  Prof. Salama’s recent research and writing focus are on theories and methodologies of design studio teaching in architecture and urban design, typological transformations in traditional architecture/urban spaces, sustainable design processes, assessing designed environments from users' perspective, diversity in urban spaces, and developing discourses on Arab Architecture.   

During OFID Days 2, Prof. Salama delivered a lecture entitled "Beyond the Conventional:  Offering Qatar University Students Multiple Learning Opportunities".    "Experiential Learning through Collaboration and Interaction" workshop Prof. Ashraf conducted with Dr. Saoume Bou Jaoude.

Professor Kassim Shaaban is the Dean of the College of Arts and Science at Qatar University.  Professor Shaaban’s research are in the areas of Applied Linguistics and Sociolinguistics.  

"Initiating Graduate Programs at CAS"  was the topic of his OFID Days 2 speech.

Mr. Mohamed Shaikh is a lecturer in the Qatar University Foundation Programs’s Math and Computer Department.

In June 2011, Mr. Shaikh collaborated with Dr. Michael Romanowski in  presenting a workshop to all faculty members about “Mentoring New Colleagues Coming to Qatar University”.
         

 

Dr. Suzanne Taher Shams is on the faculty of the College of Law at Qatar University is a U.S. attorney, licensed to practice in the state of Maryland.  She received a Juris Doctor from American University Washington College of Law in Washington D.C., a Master’s Degree in Public International Law with a focus in Human Rights and Refugee Law from the American University in Cairo, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and International Relations from the University of California, Riverside. 

Dr. Shams spoke about "Advances in Legal Advocacy Programs at the College of Law" for the OFID Days 2 event.

Mr. John Tribuna is a Lecturer  in the Foundation Program, English Department and is the FP Special Needs Liaison at Qatar University.  Mr. Tribuna is interested in the advocating for and the educating of faculty about students with Special Needs.

During OFID Days 2, Mr. Tribuna with Dr. Clay Keller and Ms. Eiman Khalil in presenting:  “Supporting Students with Special Needs at Qatar University: A Roundtable Discussion”.

Dr. Steven Wright is the Acting Head of the Department of the International Affairs, College of Arts  and  Science at Qatar University.  Dr. Wright’s research and teaching interests are Qatar's Politics, Economics and Foreign Relations, Energy, Political Reform in the Gulf States and U.S. Foreign Policy.  

Dr. Steven, the 2010 winner of  the Exemplary Course Award, receiving  first place for his course “Gulf Policies”,  spoke at in April 2011 at the OFID Days 2 event about "An Example in the Effective Use of Blackboard".  Later, in June, Dr. Wright joined Mrs. Lijy Jose in presenting a Blackboard Workshop: "Practical Advice and Support for Exceptional Usage" to all faculty.

Mrs. Maureen Watson is Head of Reference and Instructional Services Unit in the Qatar University Library.

In June 2011, Mrs. Maureen spoke at OFID about “E-Resources for Science”.
       

 

 

 

 


 

Dr. Ghassan Abbas is the Director of Psychological  and  Rehabilitation Services at Shafallah Center, Doha.  Dr. Abbas is interested in Quality Auditing, Quality Process Analyst, and Quality Improvement. 

During OFID Days 2, Dr. Ghassan offered a presentation about "Introducing Students to Qualitative Research".


 

    
Dr. Mahmoud Abdulwahed is a visiting Professor in the College of Engineering at Qatar University. 

Dr. Abdulwahed delivered a Workshop in June 2011 entitled: "Introduction to Educational Research in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Subjects" at OFID to all faculty.
       

 

Dr. Nancy Allen is with the College of Education at Qatar University.  Dr. Nancy has worked with her colleagues in the College of Education on initiating the master's  program, and has also participated in delivering the program. Dr. Nancy’s  has coordinated the development of the new Master's degree program in Educational Leadership and has worked on refining it up to the standards set by the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC), which is affiliated with the National Policy Board for Educational Administration (NPBEA), in addition to ensuring full compliance with the standards set by the National Council for Accreditation of Teachers Education (NCATE).

Dr. Allen is a Professor of Biological Sciences holding  a Ph.D. in science education. Her research interests have focused on the use of technology with multicultural populations. Dr. Nancy was the curriculum specialist for the Four Directions Challenge in Technology Project, a six year, six million dollar project in which 19 Native American schools and four universities worked collaboratively with parents, elders, and students to create culturally-relevant education through technology. She serves as a curriculum consultant for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and numerous tribal schools and colleges and as a member of the National Digital Equity Committee for the US Department of Education's Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers in Technology Project.                                     

At OFID Dr. Nancy has contributed significantly in designing and offering a number of programs  concerning  "Developing a Course Portfolio",  "Problem-Based Learning",  "Inquiry Methodology",  "Research for Publication", and "Writing support Program for TAs",  to mention but a few.

Dr. Saouma Bou Jaoude  is the Director of the Science and Math Education Center at  American University of Beirut in Lebanon.   Much of Dr. Bou Jaoude’s publications deal with science education.  

As an AUB Consultant to Qatar University, Dr. Saouma regularly conducts sessions at OFID concerning topics such as  "Enhancing Students’ Cognitive Skills", "Experiential Learning through Collaboration and Interaction", and  "Implementing Inquiry Based Teaching and Learning".

 

Dr. Amal Bou Zeineddine Associate Director, Center for Teaching and Learning at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. 

Dr. Amal presents  sessions for OFID in its program  "Course Design and Learning Outcomes Assessment".  "Developing Tools for Assessing Student Learning Outcomes",  "Assessing Learning Outcomes" are samples of the sessions Dr. Bou Zeineddine has delivered at OFID.

Mrs. Nathalie Honein  is an Instructor at the  American University of Beirut in Lebanon and an AUB Consultant on frequent visits to Qatar University .    Mrs. Honein’s research is in the area of applied linguistics. 

During visits to QU, Mrs. Nathalie conducts workshops on "Techniques to Promote Motivation" and "Critical Thinking through Writing Activities".

Mrs. Malakeh R. Khoury is in the Department of English at the ­College of Arts and Science, American University Beirut.  Mrs. Khoury is interested in web-enhanced courses, blended and online learning, academic, technical, and business English.

At OFID Days 2, Mrs. Khoury spoke about "Online Peer Feedback to Writing" in conjunction with Dr. Sinno from AUB.

Dr. Patricia O’Connor (Georgetown University) speaks frequently about  ‘Critical Thinking for Research Skills Across the Curriculum’.    During the OFID Days 2, Dr. Patricia shared the stage with Dr. Edward Moad while speaking about this topic. 

In September of 2010, Dr. Paricia presented a very useful and well-attended series of sessions dealing with "Interdisciplinary Inquiry: Close Reading Strategies" which provided hands-on materials to teach students to probe behind the scenes, between the lines to set up questions for unpacking any text.

Dr. Zane Siraj Sinno is a faculty member in the ­College of Arts and Science, Department of English at American University Beirut.  Dr. Sinno’s research interests include language, power and globalization, blended learning, and team-based learning.
