"Diabetes Workshop for Community Pharmacists"
Dr. Kerry Wilbur, Assistant Professor, Clinical Pharmacy and Practice and Ms. Katie Nahas, Clinical Dietitian and Certified Pump Trainer, Qatar Diabetes Association delivered two successful workshops to over 50 community pharmacists during Diabetes Month. These workshops provided an excellent opportunity for participating pharmacists to gain further insight into non-medication factors in diabetes risk screening and management. As well, the sessions focused on the complementary health care roles of dietitians and pharmacists .
These workshops were the first activities coordinated by CPPD especially for community-based pharmacists. Our sincere thanks to the Qatar Diabetes Association for their contributions to these successful events.
The workshop is available for online viewing for pharmacists unable to attend the workshops. To view, simply click on a link below. You will be given three viewing options. CPPD Meeting #4 (April 28, 2009) CPPD Meeting #3 (March 17, 2009)
"Pharmaceutical Care Management of Asthma Workshops"
On March 17th, 2009, QU College of Pharmacy CPPD welcomed 37 pharmacists to HMC Education Centre for its first continuing education (CE) event, where Dr. Nadir Kheir (Assistant Professor and Founding Chair, QU College of Pharmacy) conducted a Pharmaceutical Care of Asthma Management Workshop.
Dr. Nadir engaged the audience with a discussion highlighting principles of pharmaceutical care and the evidence-based management of asthma. Pharmacists worked in small groups to apply these concepts, as well as to explore the utility of asthma action plans to three asthma patient cases. Also attending this program to help facilitate the small group patient case discussions were Dr. Bridget Javed (Assistant Professor and SPEP Coordinator) and Dr. Kerry Wilbur (Assistant Professor and CPPD Founding Coordinator) from the College of Pharmacy and Mr. Abdulla Adam, Senior Pharmacist with Qatar Petroleum (Dukhan).
The March 17th CPPD event received interest from pharmacists in excess of spaces available for registration. Due to the tremendous response, this workshop was repeated at HMC Education Centre on April 28th. Thirty-four pharmacists (and one second year pharmacy student!) participated in this event.
Attending pharmacists who pre-registered for this event received documentation for 3 QU CPPD CE Units. Registered pharmacists participated in self-assessment and reflection exercises prior to the workshop. Correct responses to the asthma pre-quiz were emailed to these pharmacists following the event.
