Marcel Winatschek's Tokyopunk

Dear faculty, staff and students,

Today, we begin a new academic year. I ask Allah to inspire us on the rightful path and help us towards success, in line with Qatar University’s new strategic plan.

Qatar University welcomes this year over 3,200 new students, who are filled with hope and confidence to start a new journey in their life. This year also, we will celebrate in October the graduation of the 40th batch of students, under the patronage of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The number of Qatar University’s students has increased this year to reach around 20,000. They are distributed across nine colleges and 79 academic programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. They will contribute to building the country’s future and to fulfilling the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

Therefore, it is highly important that our students receive a valuable education in line with the world’s latest developments, the country’s values, and the required skills to join the labor market.

Qatar University recently achieved significant success in university rankings among which is being ranked 349 in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2018 and among the top 500 universities in the world in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2018.

The University has also been successful in its accreditation initiatives, earning the endorsement of numerous leading international accrediting bodies, the most recent of which were the accreditation awards achieved by the colleges of Education, Engineering, and Health Sciences. This makes Qatar University’s administration, faculty and staff responsible to maintain these achievements.

The current situation in Qatar showcased the solidarity of the Qatari people and their unity with the country’s wise leadership and His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Additionally, Qatar’s  residents have also shown their loyalty and love to the country.

Dear students and graduates, your university study is no longer just a personal need to build your future career, as each one of you plays a pivotal role in driving forward the country’s future, development and growth.

We must also draw inspiration from the speech of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in which he said: “We require diligence, creativity, independent thinking, constructive initiatives and interest in academic achievement in all disciplines, self-reliance and fighting indolence and dependency. This is not just wishful thinking, and these are not mere dreams. Our goals are realistic and practical.” This aligns with Qatar University’s commitment to keep up with this vision through its academic programs and research, in order to remain as always a driver of growth and progress.
