International Sustainability Workshop (ISW 2021) in October 2021

The M-NEX Doha Team with the collaboration of the Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) and the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences (DBES) at Qatar University will organize an International Sustainability Workshop, on the 26-27th October 2021 (during the Qatar Sustainability Week 2021). 

ISW 2021 will explore the possibilities of sustainable resource use and management in Qatar and worldwide. The latest experiences, knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices will be presented and discussed by multidisciplinary experts from Qatar, the USA, Japan, Germany, Italy, UK, and UAE. The scientific advancements in sustainable development will be covered through 4 dedicated sessions focused on ‘’Food’’, ‘’Water and Waste’’, ‘’Energy’’, and ‘’Sustainability and Global Issues’’.

Design e-Workshop in May 2021

The M-NEX Doha Team successfully organized a Design e-Workshop on innovative solutions for a sustainable Food, Energy, Water, and Waste Nexus for Qatar University Campus. The M-NEX researchers with participants from academia, researchers, and local stakeholders co-designed solutions for Qatar University and developed additional knowledge on how to integrate food production at the campus level taking into consideration the Doha Living Lab themes. The developed solutions can increase food security, enhance nutrition, strengthen resilience among the community and food systems while reducing the CO2 footprint.

Food, Energy, Water, and Waste (FEWW) Workshop in April 2021

The M-NEX Doha team organized a workshop on innovative solutions for a sustainable Food, Energy, Water, and Waste Nexus in Qatar. In collaboration with the researchers of the Center for Sustainable Development in Qatar University, local experts, and stakeholders from various fields,  presented the main challenges of the FEWW Nexus and attempted to give productive solutions for sustainable food systems, efficient resource management, and resource-saving technologies. Participants were from the governmental sector, academia, researchers, local stakeholders, and industry representatives mainly from Qatar but also other countries like the UK, France, and Tunisia.

Participation in the 56th ISOCARP World Planning Congress: Post-Oil City: Planning for Urban Green Deals in November 2020

The M-NEX Doha team participated in the 56th ISOCARP Virtual World Planning Congress with an oral presentation of a Case Study Report under the title: ‘’Food, Energy, Water, and Waste management innovation in an urban context: a Qatar University Campus approach’’. 

Design e-Workshop in May 2020

The M-NEX Doha organized in May 2020 an e-Workshop aiming to co-design solutions for Qatar University and develop additional knowledge on how to approach a sustainable FEWW Nexus on the Campus, taking into consideration the Doha Living Lab concept. Participants were from the M-NEX Doha research team, local stakeholders, and international team members of the M-NEX Project.

Sustainable FEW Nexus and Food Waste Management in an Urban Context Workshop in February 2020

The M-NEX Doha organized in February 2020 a Workshop under the title: ‘’Sustainable FEW Nexus and Food Waste Management in an Urban Context’’ as part of the Qatar University Belmont Forum Research Project. The Workshop’s objective was to explore the possibilities of achieving a sustainable food, energy, and water nexus as well as food waste management on a community level within the urban environment.

Latest experiences with success stories and possible solutions were presented and discussed on sustainable urban agriculture and food waste treatment into compost. Participants were from Academia, researchers, local stakeholders, industry representatives, and NGOs.

Team Visit to Agrico in December 2019

The M-NEX Doha team visited in December 2019 the Agrico Agricultural Company in Al Khor. Agrico is one of the first, biggest agricultural companies in Qatar having one of the most sophisticated air-conditioned hydroponic facilities, and is the first certified organic local company under USDA standards in the State of Qatar. The two parties agreed to collaborate on the development of the Doha Living Lab and having Agrico as one of the project’s main stakeholders.
