TAD Groups
GASU organizes TAD (Thesis and Dissertation) Groups at the start of each semester, which run the duration of the semester. TAD Groups are intended to provide additional support to graduate students working on a thesis or dissertation research project. Groups are organized of 4-6 graduate students from various disciplines who are at similar stages of the writing process in their graduate research. TAD Groups meet weekly or bi-weekly (as determined by group members) on campus to share and discuss their research and receive feedback from peers.
What can you expect to get from a TAD Group?
- To receive constructive feedback from peers
- To learn about the writing process
- To identify issues that support and hinder the writing process; learn how to break writing tasks into manageable pieces in order to maintain progress and stay motivated
- To engage with peers who face the same kinds of problems with conceptualizing ideas, critical thinking, and writing
- To expand your network of resources to help you achieve your academic and personal goals
- To be part of a positive and supportive graduate community
TAD Days
TAD Days are a thesis and dissertation writing days held on campus twice each year (once per semester) and are intended to help students maintain writing motivation and productivity throughout the semester. TAD Writing Days provide a comfortable and productive writing environment for graduate students with access to specialists in writing, research design, and statistical analysis. Students are invited to write together and discuss their progress. Students also have opportunities to schedule one-on-one sessions with an expert in a needed area.
TAD Bootcamp
The TAD Bootcamp is a three-day GASU event designed to provide graduate researchers the opportunity to make significant progress on an early draft of their thesis/dissertation manuscript. The TAD Bootcamp is not designed to provide advice on editing, restructuring, polishing a thesis, or direct instruction on the tenets of academic writing. Rather, it is about graduate researchers writing large sections (in draft form) of their thesis or dissertation. The TAD Bootcamp takes place during the first week of spring semester in the university library. Graduate students are invited to attend the boot camp based on eligibility and endorsement by their Thesis Supervisor.
Grad Faculty Event
The Grad Faculty Event is centered on the notion that graduate faculty plays a vital role in supporting graduate research at QU, which, in turn, is a bridge to achieving solutions to grand challenges in the region. This semi-annual GASU event showcases presentations by individuals with exceptional research and scholarly output aimed at emphasizing strategies and techniques to improve the process of identifying research areas, navigating research grants, increasing research output, and involving graduate students in research.
