Admission Requirements

Admission into the various Diploma and Masters programs at Qatar University is extremely competitive. Admission application requirements and timelines differ by program so applicants are encouraged to pay careful attention to all requirements for each program. Additionally, applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their admissions application and all required documentation according to the admission timelines as Qatar University will not accept applications after the published application deadline.

Master of Arts in Arabic Literature and Language

All applicants to the Master of Arts in Arabic Literature and Language program who meet the following minimum criteria will be considered for admission to Qatar University:

  1. Completed a Bachelor Degree in Arts with a concentration in Arabic Language and Literature from Qatar University, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80 out of 4.00 or equivalent from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association, the Ministry of Higher Education, or another comparable institution in that country.
  2. For applicants applying to the Comparative Cultural Studies concentration of the Master of Arabic Language program, they required to achieved a minimum score of 500 on the paper-based TOEFL or equivalent test taken within 2 years of the start of the intended semester of admission.
  3. A satisfactory performance in the personal interview with the Admission Committee.

Master of Art in Gulf Studies

All applicants to the Master of Art in Gulf Studies program who meet the following minimum criteria will be considered for admission to Qatar University:

  1. Completed a Bachelor degree with a grade point average of at least 2.80 out of 4.00, or equivalent, from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or comparable in that country.
  2. Achieved a minimum score of 520 on the paper-based TOEFL or equivalent test taken within 2 years of the start of the intended semester of admission.
  3. A satisfactory performance in the personal interview with the Admission committee.

Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences

All applicants to the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences program who meet the following minimum criteria will be considered for admission to Qatar University: 

  1. Completed a Bachelor degree in biomedical science, biology or related fields with minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80 out of 4.00 or equivalent from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or comparable in that country.
  2. Achieved a minimum score of 520 on the paper-based TOEFL or equivalent test taken within 2 years of the start of the intended semester of admission.
  3. A satisfactory performance in the personal interview with the Admission committee.
  4. Students with BS degrees in other than Biomedical Sciences are required to successfully complete the bridge courses prior to entering the MSc program.

Master of Science in Materials Science and Technology

All applicants to the Master of Science in Materials Science and Technology program who meet the following minimum criteria will be considered for admission to Qatar University: 

  1. Completed a Bachelor degree in science, engineering or related field with minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80 out of 4.00 from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or equivalent in that country, OR achieved a score of no less than 650 on the Quantitative part of the GRE exam, while there is no specified minimum for the Analytical part but score will be part of evaluation.
  2. Achieved a minimum score of 520 on the paper-based TOEFL or equivalent test taken within 2 years of the start of the intended semester of admission.
  3. A satisfactory performance in the personal interview with the program admission committee.

Doctor of Philosophy in Biological and Environmental Sciences

All applicants to the PhD degree program in Biological and Environmental Sciences need to satisfy the following minimum criteria to be considered for admission to the program:

  1. Have a Master degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or in a related field with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3 out of 4 or equivalent from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or comparable in that country.
  2. Achieved a minimum score of 520 on the paper-based TOEFL or equivalent test taken within 2 years of the start of the intended semester of admission.
  3. Successfully pass the personal interview with the steering committee.
  4. Submit GRE-General test score, taken within less than 5 years prior to the start of the intended semester of admission, knowing that GRE is not required for admission but its submission will strengthen the application.
  5. It is preferred that candidates have an outstanding academic record and a strong motivation for scientific research. Previous research experience and publications are a plus during the admission process, students will be accepted in the desired concentration based on their educational background or major as evidenced by their earned Master and Bachelor degrees.

Master of Accounting

All applicants to the Master of Accounting program who meet the following minimum criteria will be considered for admission to Qatar University: 

  1. Completed a Bachelor’s degree in accounting with a grade point average of at least 2.85 out of 4.00 OR GPA of 2.65 out of 4.0 with a Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT score of 450) from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or equivalent in that country.
  2. Achieved a minimum score of 520 on the paper-based TOEFL or equivalent test taken within 2 years of the start of the intended semester of admission.
  3. A short essay stating the candidate objectives and interests in pursuing the MAC.
  4. A satisfactory performance in the personal interview.

Master of Business Administration

All applicants to the Master of Business Administration program who meet the following minimum criteria will be considered for admission to Qatar University: 

  1. Completed a Bachelor’s degree with a grade point average of at least 2.85 out of 4.0 OR GPA of 2.65 out of 4.0 with a Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT score of 450) from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or equivalent in that country.
  2. Achieved a minimum score of 520 on the paper-based TOEFL or equivalent test taken within 2 years of the start of the intended semester of admission.
  3. A minimum two-year’s work experience is required. Additional experience will be recognized and may help with admission to the program.
  4. A satisfactory performance in the personal interview.

Master of Education in Education Leadership

  1. Completed a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 out of 4.00 from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or equivalent in that country.
  2. Achieved a minimum score of 520 on the paper-based TOEFL or equivalent test taken within 2 years of the start of the intended semester of admission.

Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering

All applicants to the Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering program who meet the following minimum criteria will be considered for admission to Qatar University: 

  1. Completed a master’s degree in a related field - GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 for Masters degree work from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or equivalent in that country.
  2. Achieved a minimum score of 520 on the paper-based TOEFL or equivalent test taken within 2 years of the start of the intended semester of admission.
  3. Passing an interview with the College's admission panel.

All applicants to the Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering program are required to submit the following documents to the Admissions Department:

  • Online Admissions Application
  • Final and official university transcripts
  • Official TOEFL or equivalent score report.
  • Health Certificate issued inside Qatar (International students please refer to International Students Website)
  • Three letters of recommendation (at least two from instructors or current supervisors) addressing the applicant academic achievement and professional accomplishments.
  • Proposed thesis topic or general area of research (approximately 1000 words)..
  • Photocopy of the applicant's Qatar ID card (Non-Qatari applicants must also provide a copy of their passport; international students please refer to International Students Website)
  • Two (2) recent identical passport size photographs (size 4 x 6 cm) with white background
  • Application Fees: QR 350

Master of Urban Planning and Design

All applicants to the Master of Science in Urban Planning and Design program who meet the following minimum criteria will be considered for admission to Qatar University: 

  1. Completed a Bachelor degree in built environment-related disciplines including architecture, urban design, urban planning, planning, landscape architecture, interior architecture and construction engineering, civil engineering with minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80 out of 4.00 from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or equivalent in that country, OR achieved a score of no less than 650 on the Quantitative part of the GRE exam, while there is no specified minimum for the Analytical part but score will be part of evaluation.
  2. Achieved a minimum score of 520 on the paper-based TOEFL or equivalent test taken within 2 years of the start of the intended semester of admission.
  3. Passing an interview with the College's admission panel.

Doctor of Pharmacy (Full-time)

All applicants (Females only) to the full-time study plan PharmD degree program who meet the following minimum criteria will be considered for admission to Qatar University:

  1. Completed a minimum of a 5-year BSc (Pharm) degree with a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.80 out of 4.00 from Qatar University.
  2. Achieved a minimum score of 520 on the paper-based TOEFL or equivalent test taken within 2 years of the start of the intended semester of admission.
  3. Achieved a passing score on the Qatar Supreme Council for Health pharmacist licensure exam results (Prometrics-based exam since April 2010).
  4. A satisfactory performance in the personal interview (by invitation) as conducted by the Admission Committee.

All applicants to the Doctor of Pharmacy program are required to submit the following documents to the Admissions Department:

  • Official, final and authenticated academic university transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions
  • Official and final TOEFL or IELTS English proficiency results
  • Curriculum Vitae (C.V.)
  • Official, final and authenticated Qatar Supreme Council for Health pharmacist licensure exam results (PrometricR-based exam taken after April 2010 only)
  • Personal statement
  • Three letters of recommendation from undergraduate professors or
    employers

Doctor of Pharmacy (Part-time)

All applicants to the Doctor of Pharmacy Degree program (Part-time) who meet the following minimum criteria will be considered for admission to Qatar University: 

  1. Completed a minimum of a 5-year BSc (Pharm) degree with a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.80 out of 4.00 from a faculty, school or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or equivalent in that country.
  2. Achieved a minimum score of 520 on the paper-based TOEFL (or equivalent) test.
  3. Achieved a passing score on the Qatar Supreme Council for Health pharmacist licensure exam results (Prometrics-based exam since April 2010).
  4. Achieved a satisfactory score (no minimum set) on a college-based assessment of baseline knowledge, skills, attitudes and values examination.
  5. A satisfactory performance in the personal interview (by invitation) as conducted by the Admission Committee.

All applicants to the Doctor of Pharmacy program are required to submit the following documents to the Admissions Department:

  • Online Admissions Application
  • Official, final and authenticated academic university transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions

Master of Science in Pharmacy (Full-time)

All applicants to the Master of Science in Pharmacy (Full-time) program who meet the following minimum criteria will be considered for admission to Qatar University: 

  1. Completed a 5-year Bachelor degree or equivalent degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Human Nutrition, Chemical Engineering or related field with a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.80/4.00 from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or equivalent in that country.
  2. Students holding a bachelor degree in a discipline other than pharmacy will be required to complete bridge course(s) based on the decision of the program admission committee.
  3. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score while not required, is recommended as it will strengthen the student application. The GRE score will be considered, when available, in evaluating student application.
  4. Achieved a minimum score of 520 on the paper-based TOEFL or equivalent test taken within 2 years of the start of the intended semester of admission.
  5. Sufficient preparatory background to carry out graduate work in the chosen field.
  6. A satisfactory performance in the personal interview (by invitation).

All applicants to the Master of Science in Pharmacy program are required to submit the following documents to the Admissions Department:

  • Online Admissions Application
  • Official, final and authenticated academic university transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions
  • Official and final TOEFL or IELTS English proficiency results
  • Curriculum Vitae (C.V.)
  • Official, final and authenticated GRE scores (within past 2 years)
  • Personal statement
  • Three letters of recommendation from undergraduate professors or employers

Master of Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh

All applicants to the Master of Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh program who meet the following minimum criteria will be considered for admission to Qatar University: 

  1. Completed a Bachelor degree from the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Qatar University with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80 out of 4.00 or equivalent from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or equivalent in that country.
  2. Passing the personal interview with the College Admission Committee with a minimum grade of 75%.
  3. Applicants with Bachelor degrees other than in Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh must successfully complete bridge courses as required by the college admission committee prior to entering the program. Students must successfully complete all required bridge courses with a minimum grade of (C+) before registering in the master program courses..
  4. Admission into the program is competitive and considers the English competencies of applicants.

Master of Quranic Sciences and Exegesis

All applicants to the Master of Quranic Sciences and Exegesis program who meet the following minimum criteria will be considered for admission to Qatar University: 

  1. Completed a Bachelor degree in Islamic Studies from Qatar University with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80 out of 4.00 or equivalent from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or equivalent in that country.
  2. Applicants holding a Bachelor degree in Arabic or in Dawa and Mass Communication from Qatar University with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80 out of 4.00 or equivalent from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or equivalent in that country may be admitted into the program if they successfully complete four bridge courses as required by the college admission committee prior to entering the program. Students must successfully complete all required bridge courses with a minimum grade of (C+) before registering in the master program courses.
