- The University is committed to providing equal opportunities to applicants with special needs to access higher education programs and services at the University.
- Student graduation certificate does not include any information about the student being special needs. Admission into the University academic programs is dependent upon the applicant with special needs being able to meet all the academic requirements for the program, with special needs accommodation.
- The University provides support services to registered students with special needs.
- It is the responsibility of the registered students in the University to bring themselves and their needs to the attention of the Inclusion and special needs support center of the University and provide documentation upon admission or at the onset of the condition if it occurs after admission, from qualified professionals to support an application for special needs accommodation.
- University staff or faculty who identify a student with Special Needs should, with the student’s consent in writing, bring the student to the attention of the Inclusion and Special needs support center who will coordinate the follow up evaluation, referral and make recommendations for appropriate Special Needs Accommodation.
The Special needs support center is responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of student data in the service records. Information relating to the special needs students is not released without the consent in writing of the student.
- Law No. (2) for the year 2004 as well as Article No. (49) of the Permanent Constitution of the State of Qatar, which implies the right of education and equal opportunities for people with special needs
- Qatar National Vision 2030, which confirms achieving «high quality of educational and training opportunities appropriate to each individual’s aspirations and abilities" and to provide "continuous lifelong educational programs available to everyone" (p. 13).
- Qatar first National Development strategy (2011-2016), which states, "the government will identify measures to support independent living and the social inclusion of people with disabilities in the community through an expanded network of vocational training institutions and other assistance centers that help support independent lifestyles” (p. 175.)
- United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, ratified by the State of Qatar in 2008, which states "to enable persons with disabilities to live independently and participate fully in all aspects of life, States Parties shall take appropriate measures to ensure to persons with disabilities access, on an equal basis with others, to the physical environment, to transportation, to information and communications, including information and communication technologies and systems, and to other facilities and services open or provided to the public"(p.15).
