The Energy and Economics research area of the Gulf Studies Center at the College of Arts and Sciences at Qatar University is led by Dr. Remi Piet, and encompasses a number of research areas, including:

The Energy and Economics research area is also in the process of developing a number of interdisciplinary research clusters:
- Energy Geopolitics (headed by Dr Mazher Al Zoby)
- Energy Subsidy reforms (headed by Dr Laurent Lambert)
- Inequalities in the Gulf (headed by Dr Tamer El Gindi)
- Economic Geography, Food Security Policy and Urban Planning (headed by Dr Tarek Hassen)
- International Investments (Headed by Dr Ashraf Mishrif)
- Sustainable Development and Climate Change Policies (co-led with the Center for Energy and Sustainability Law)
This research pillar aims at generating original research and ensure collaboration from a multidisciplinary perspective. Several partnerships have been established with institutions both inside or other Qatar to ensure the implementation of several research, training and awareness raising events.
