    Politics and Security

    The Politics and Security research area of the Gulf Studies Center at the College of Arts and Sciences at Qatar University is led by Dr. Luciano Zaccara, and encompasses a number of research areas, including:
     
    • Gulf Defense and Security
    • GCC integration
    •  Human rights
    • Democracy and political reform
    • Gulf politics and political systems
    • International relations of the gulf
    • The Gulf and Global Powers
    • GCC Foreign Policy

     

    The politics and security research area is also moving forward on two major research projects.
     

    Majlis Al Shura in the Gulf

    The first, in partnership with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, is an on-going research project regarding the Majlis Al Shura and Legislative Councils in the Gulf Region. The project looks at both legislative and political performances of the councils in the GCC states, Iran, Iraq and Yemen, and it is aimed to end with a reference edited book.
     
     

    Iran’s Internal Politics and Foreign Policy

    The second research project, organized with Chatham House, focuses on the Internal Politics and their effect on Iranian Foreign Policy. 
     
     

    Research clusters

    The Politics and Security Research Area is also in the process of developing a number of interdisciplinary research clusters. These clusters bring together scholars and community members from across Doha to engage in interdisciplinary research on topics as diverse as Iranian Politics and Foreign Affairs, Gulf-Africa Security dynamics, and Elections in the Gulf, among others.
