About the Event

The ISIRV School was originally conceived to offer young scientists a thorough understanding of the epidemiology, molecular biology, immunology, and pathogenesis of respiratory viruses, such as influenza and coronaviruses. It also focuses on control and prevention strategies for these viruses. To date, five highly successful ISIRV Schools have been held in Siena, Italy (three times), Beirut, Lebanon, and Vellore, India. These events bring together both local and internationally renowned experts in various aspects of influenza and other respiratory viruses, who deliver expert talks and share their knowledge.

The ISIRV School is specifically designed for early-career scientists involved in public health, surveillance, research, or product development related to respiratory viruses. It provides a unique platform for young researchers to engage with seasoned experts and peers, fostering professional networks that can support career development and future collaborations. Since its inception in 2011, the ISIRV School has educated nearly 300 students during its week-long programs.

The sixth ISIRV School will be held in collaboration with Qatar University's Biomedical Research Center (BRC), which is a “WHO Collaborating Center" for Zoonotic Diseases. This event is part of a broader effort to build global capacity to combat potential pandemics. ISIRV (The International Society for Influenza and other Respiratory Viruses) is a global scientific society, with members from over 70 countries. Its schools are well-regarded for providing valuable developmental opportunities for postgraduate students and early-career scientists in the field of respiratory viruses.

The five-day scientific program will cover key topics related to respiratory viruses, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience. Fellowships will be offered to a limited number of students, covering travel and local expenses, with priority given to applicants from low- and middle-income countries.
