Study Plan before Fall 2021

The common package is made up of courses intended to build students' proficiency communicating in both Arabic and English. These courses build the four basic language skills, namely: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The common package also includes a single course that conveys appreciation and understanding of Islamic culture, values and morals. The number of credit hours required for this package ranges from 12 to 15, depending on the program. The specific courses to be completed by students are identified in the degree requirements of each program and consist of some combination of the courses listed below.

Courses in the social and behavioral sciences are those that focus on people as members of society. They develop awareness of the methods of inquiry used by the social and behavioral sciences. They stimulate critical thinking about the ways people act and have acted in response to their societies and should promote appreciation of how societies and social subgroups operate. This package includes courses in cultural anthropology, economics, political science, education, psychology, sociology, and related disciplines. A minimum of 3 credit hours from courses listed in the CCP defined Social/Behavioral Sciences package.

Courses in the natural science are those that examine the physical universe, its life forms, and its natural phenomena. The y help student develop an appreciation and understanding of the scientific method, and encourage an understanding of the relationships between science and other human activities. This package includes introductory or integrative courses in biology, chemistry, geology, and physics. In addition, this package includes courses related to mathematics to help students think critically and use quantitative reasoning skills in real life situations, thereby expanding the diversity of their knowledge beyond the boundaries of their disciplinary home. A minimum of 3 credit hours from courses listed in the CCP defined Natural Science/Mathematics package.

Courses in the humanities and fine arts are those which study the cultural activities and artistic expressions of human being s. They help the student develop awareness of the ways in which people through the ages and in different cultures have responded to themselves and the world around them in artistic and cultural creation. They introduce students to principal areas of inquiry in the humanities, thereby expanding the diversity of their knowledge. This package includes courses related to different discipline such as literature, philosophy, history, law, religion, and visual arts. This package has a sub-package that includes courses mainly focusing on the history of Qatar and Gulf countries. In addition, it includes a history oriented course related to Gulf Studies. The number of credit hours required for this package ranges from 3 to 6, depending on the program. All programs require completion of 3 Credit Hours from courses listed in the Qatar and Gulf History sub-package. When applicable, the remaining 3 credit hours can be taken from courses listed in the CCP defined Humanities/ Fine Arts package. Humanities/Fine Arts Package (3-6 Credits) Continued Qatar and Gulf History Sub-Package (3 Credits) This sub-package includes courses mainly focusing on the history of Qatar and Gulf countries. In addition, it includes a history-oriented course related to Gulf Studies. The Qatar and Gulf History Sub package is part of the Humanities /Fine Arts package. Students must complete a minimum of 3 CH in the courses listed in the sub-package.

Electives in the General Knowledge Package will familiarize students with common concepts in the humanities and/or social sciences, and other fields in a manner that reveals their value in contemporary life. The number of credit hours required for this package range from 0 to 3, depending on the program. When applicable, the 3 credit hours can be taken from courses listed in the CCP defined General Skills package

Electives in this Package are structured to develop students' communication skills, critical thinking skills, and research skills. These courses enhance the students' capacity to successfully communicate in different situations and include training in oral, written, and interpersonal communication. In addition, the package will train and enhance students' capacities to further their intellectual inquiry through the use of a constellation of research skills that draw upon different information sources. Courses in this package will build students' capacity to think critically and creatively about the world in which they live. Through a variety of methods, this critical and creative thinking will facilitate their ability to make decisions and solve problems. The trend of developing skills across Core courses is used in designing and delivering the courses and assessing the student learning outcomes at the course level. The number of credit hours required for this package ranges from 0 to 3, depending on the program. When applicable, the 3 credit hours can be taken from courses listed in the CCP defined General Skills package.

This package may include different courses related to College and/or Program elective, supportive, service, and other courses (e.g. College Core) that have learning outcomes related to the Core Curriculum Program mission, objectives and learning outcomes. It might include courses related to natural sciences, mathematics, statistics, social/behavioral sciences, and humanities/fine arts. The number of credit hours required for this package ranges from 0 to 12, depending on the program. When applicable, the required number of credit hours can be taken from a list of courses specific to each program and/ or college. The specific courses to be completed by students are identified in the degree requirements of each program. It might include courses pertaining to natural sciences, mathematics, social/behavioral sciences, and humanities/ fine arts. Courses in such a package can be counted as Core Curriculum courses. In addition, English courses focusing on developing language skills might be included in this package.
