QU Hosts 5th International Conference on Entrepreneurship in Economic Development

Qatar University (QU) in cooperation with the Arab Planning Institute (API) Kuwait, organized the Fifth Annual Conference on Entrepreneurship in Economic Development.

It is considered to be one of the leading entrepreneurship conferences in the Middle East. It is a bridge for scholars and practitioners interested in the research, teaching and practice of entrepreneurship. The three-day conference, which was held at the Wyndham Place Bay Hotel, aimed to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences to advance and develop entrepreneurial research in the region.

The objectives of the conference were also to enhance research cooperation between all participants in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation; and developing sustainable policies that address economic, social and environmental challenges.

In his statement on this occasion, Dr. Omar Al-Ansari, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Qatar University: “I am glad to affirm that Qatar University seeks to create an entrepreneurial culture among the young generation by improving the competencies and skills of entrepreneurs and innovators. The university emphasis on innovation and entrepreneurship, and this strategy is carried out through a variety of academic programs.”

On his part, Dr. Adam Fadlallah, Acting Dean of the College of Business and Economics: “Qatar University, represented by the College of Business and Economics, has started organizing this conference on an annual basis since 2014, but the circumstances that we have all experienced as a result of a pandemic have prevented the conference from being held annually in previous years, and we thank God, things have almost returned to what they were before the Corona pandemic, which encouraged us to hold the conference this year.”

Dr. added. Adam: "The two-day conference focused on pioneering digital transformation including digital transformation in the fields of education, health, financial services, catering, hospitality, and other services, which will create many business and investment opportunities.”

In turn, said Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Latif, Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship: "In light of the Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to transform the Qatari economy from a traditional economy to a knowledge-based economy. While aiming to shed light on the importance of pioneering digital transformation, discussing the opportunities available to entrepreneurs and innovators towards supporting the knowledge economy, identifying the challenges they may face and providing constructive recommendations.”

It is worth noting that this year's conference discussed a number of topics related to digital transformation, by hosting experts and researchers from the State of Qatar, Arab countries and various countries of the world. Among the seminars that discussed the entrepreneurial digital transformation and the entrepreneurial system in Qatar, the Arab countries and other countries of the world, more than 50 research papers were presented by researchers from different countries of the world, where these researches discussed various aspects of pioneering digital transformation. Those discussions and research that were presented contributed to formulating recommendations for decision makers. It contributes to strengthening the country's efforts towards digital transformation in general and the development of entrepreneurship and innovation in particular, which contributes to building a sustainable national economy based on knowledge.
