Welcome to the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the website of the department of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics at the College of Arts and Sciences.
With its vision of becoming one of the leading departments in the region, the department is committed to creating and disseminating high quality knowledge related to Mathematics, Statistics, Physics and Material Science through research, teaching and various professional contributions. The department also aims to serve the academic community and the public in general. To exemplify this commitment, in 2011, the department initiated the Statistics Consulting Unit.
The department of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics offers three undergraduate degrees, two graduate degrees and two graduate certificates:
- The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics is of an interdisciplinary nature with one focus in Actuarial Mathematics and one in Applied Mathematics.
- The Bachelor of Science in Statistics is oriented towards applications and is accredited by Royal Statistical Society.
- The Master of Science in Applied Statistics provides advanced training in applied statistics, exposure to statistics in a consulting or collaborative research environment, and specialized coursework in a number of areas of emphasis.
- The Master of Science in Materials Science and Technology is designed to provide and equip students with the knowledge, training, and the latest scientific and technological skills needed by the Qatar industry.
- The Graduate Certificate in Corrosion is designed to increase the level of the corrosion professionals in Qatar, especially in the oil, gas and petrochemicals industries, which are the main industries in Qatar.
- The Graduate Certificate in Applied Statistics provides a foundation in applied statistics as it develops skills that can be applied to a range of occupations in Qatar, from health to engineering.
Moreover, the department offers a Minor in Statistics and a Minor in Actuarial Mathematics, as well as a many service courses to a large number of students from other departments and colleges.
We have a team of highly qualified and dedicated faculty members that strives for success and continues to serve the Qatari society in many ways including community outreach programs, professional development activities, and collaborative partnerships in various sectors of the national and international community.
