Student Counseling Center
The Student Counseling Center provides support and psychotherapy services to students to overcome psychological, behavioral, social and emotional disorders and difficulties that may affect their performance. The Center is also an essential reference for faculty and staff; it facilitates their services in supporting students through counseling sessions, educational programs, and prevention strategies.
- Therapeutic Services: include individual sessions in which the center's specialists individually provide students with psychological and behavioral support services in relation to their disorders and difficulties in all different aspects; it also fosters the personal development of students and the positive reinforcement of their skills. The Center cooperates with Hamad Medical Corporation’s Psychiatry Hospital in this field which assigns two psychiatrists to attend the university at the Student Counseling Center twice a week to coordinate support for cases requiring medical treatment. In addition, treatment services include group sessions whereby the Center provides psychological and behavioral support to students in relation to the common difficulties in group sessions involving a number of students.

Preventive Services: include workshops and events in which the Center provides guidelines and information to support the student's endeavor in the various spheres of his/her life. The Center also seeks to spread awareness and instill the culture of mental health and methods of prevention and development; this also includes bulletins and media through which the Center seeks to constantly communicate with students and make them aware of mental health and introduce preventive methods in the psychological field.
Examples of the services provided by the Center in some areas:
- Academically:In cases of exam anxiety, stress management, improved focus and memory, time management. .. etc.
- Psychologically: overcoming psychological difficulties such as general anxiety, obsessiveness, social anxiety, trauma anxiety, and depression. .. etc.
- Socially: marital, and family problems... etc.
- Acquiring and developing self-development skills: building self-confidence, procrastination and motivation, knowledge of tendencies and self-discovery... etc.

Faculty members can refer students suffering from mental or behavioral disorders to the Student Counseling Center after taking permission from them.
All other QU centers and departments can also refer students, who are experiencing various psychological, behavioral and social difficulties and disorders, to the Student Counseling Center after taking their permission.
Students are referred to the Student Counseling Center by supervisors through direct communication and according to the University’s Referral System.
What topics can be discussed with the counselor?
You can discuss any personal or social concerns. Examples of topics are: stress due to exams and homework, overcoming procrastination and time management, adjusting to college life for new students, family problems, improving social skills such as public speaking and leadership, balancing between marriage life and studies.
If I receive counseling at the center, can anyone find out about it?
What you share with your counselor is confidential no one will know about it, unless you request to share information with others after you give us written authorization.
Can counseling help me improve my academic performance?
Yes. Throughout counseling, you will learn new ways to address your issues and to explore personal goals. This will help you improve your motivation for studying.
Will one counseling session be enough to help me achieve my goals?
Some students may benefit from one or two sessions of problem-solving, while some concerns may need more sessions.
Does the Counseling Center provide academic counseling?
The center provides personal counseling mainly. However, your counselor can help you explore your personal goals and interests. This self-knowledge should help you decide which major to study. Your counselor can also help you locate academic counselors.
When is the Counseling Center open?
Our regular hours are from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm. Sunday through Friday.
