Faculty Professional Development
At Qatar University, empowering faculty to design and deliver high-quality, digitally enriched courses across traditional, blended, or fully online is essential to our digital educational transformation. The Office for Digital Learning and Online Education (DLOE) leads this effort through a pedagogy-first approach guided by our Digital Teaching Competency Framework. This framework shapes all our professional development (PD) activities, ensuring faculty are equipped with the skills needed to create inclusive, engaging, and future-ready learning environments.
Aligned with the University's vision for accessible and high-quality digital education, the DLOE offers three primary forms of professional development:
Training Workshops
These hands-on sessions help faculty develop competencies in digital pedagogy, course design, and educational technology integration. Topics include the Quality Matters’ APPQMR workshop which focuses on applying quality standards to digital course design, integrating AI in teaching, and using digital tools to enhance active and engaging learning. Workshops emphasize practical application and often include follow-up resources for continued development.
Webinars
Our virtual seminar series fosters knowledge sharing and community building. Held regularly, these sessions feature faculty members and local or international experts who explore best practices and emerging trends in digital learning. Topics range from AI in education to effective digital teaching practices. All webinars are recorded and made available to QU faculty later.
Online Training Courses
This form of professional development provides flexible, self-paced learning opportunities for faculty members. Courses are accessible at any time, depending on license availability, and allow faculty to progress through the content at their own pace. These include internally developed offerings, such as the course on Generative Artificial Intelligence and Prompt Engineering available on the university’s Blackboard platform, as well as curated third-party courses offered through Coursera. Coursera courses are carefully selected and provided in collaboration with the Excellence in Teaching and Learning Center (ETLC), ensuring alignment with faculty development needs and institutional goals.
