Content Development
Publishing books in social sciences through research is crucial for advancing knowledge and understanding in different fields especially if these books can be used for as referencs for teaching activities in the relevant colleges. It allows researchers to present comprehensive analyses of social phenomena, provide evidence-based solutions to societal issues, and contribute to policy development. These publications also serve as a platform for academic discourse, influencing future research and shaping public understanding. Furthermore, they provide a lasting resource for educators, students, and practitioners to reference, fostering continuous learning and development within Qatari society. Fund avalibale range from QR 10,000 to QR 50,000 depending on the targeted Social Readiness Levels (SRL). QU Press can also work with the research teams to guide and support the book publication process.
Theme-Specific Workshop
It aims to connect researchers, with local institutions (at least one local institution) and international experts/research centers to discuss and exchange thoughts, ideas, findings, methdoloy, and findings related to the research theme. The workshop has to be aligned with the granted research objectives. Funds available will be up to QR 100,000. It is expected the workshop will lead to multi-authord book on the research sub-themes.
Training and Upskilling
- Research Ethics
Training on research ethics is critical for social science and humanities primary data collection. We will offer research ethics IRB (Institutional Review Board) training module providing guidance on ethical standards in research involving human subjects. We will also offer a training and hands-on training on the process of IRB within Qatar University to minimize barriers facing social science and humanities researchers.
- Data Collection Workshops
One example of data collection is a survey clinic which is designed to teach participants the essential skills and knowledge needed to create and conduct effective surveys. Key components include:
- Survey Design: Participants learn how to formulate clear research questions, identify target populations, and choose appropriate survey methods (e.g., online, in-person, telephone).
- Question Development: The module covers best practices for writing unbiased, concise, and relevant questions, including the use of different types of questions (e.g., open-ended, Likert scales, multiple choice).
- Sampling Strategies: Participants are introduced to sampling techniques to ensure the survey results are representative of the target population.
- Data Collection Methods: This section focuses on how to collect accurate and reliable data through various methods, such as interviews, online tools, or paper surveys.
- Pilot Testing: The module explains how to run a pilot test to refine the survey, ensuring that questions are understood and that the data collected will answer the research questions.
- Data Analysis Training for Analytic Skills
Offering training programs for HSS researchers and students on accessing, analyzing, and interpreting data using advanced statistical methods and data science tools empowers them with critical skills to handle large datasets and complex research questions.
- Others Training Modules and Mentorship Opportunities
We can also establish a list of experts from social and humanities and from different support services (library, office of research support, research ethics, innovation office, etc.) on different techniques and disciplines to provide the needed expertise for research teams especiallu junior faculty on specific topics.
Research Dissemination and Community Building
Our aim is to build a resilient social science and humanities community of scholars within Qatar University and discuss ideas/research findings within the community. We aim to gather faculty members and students from different colleges and centers to network and exchange expertise. The community building events are the bedrock for building a shared languages across disciplines and establishing grassroots collaboration among scholars. These initiatives seek to strengthen academic networks, create spaces for interdisciplinary research, and address societal challenges by bringing diverse perspectives together. By bridging gaps between academic units in Qatar University and between academia and non-academic communities, community building and research diss proposals contribute to the development of more connected, engaged, and resilient social science and humanities community within QU.
- QUHSS Annual Forum
The Annual Social Sciences and Humanities Faculty Forum is a premier event designed to foster collaboration, dialogue, and community-building among faculty members within the social sciences and humanities disciplines. The annual forum brings together scholars, researchers, and practitioners to explore pressing issues, share innovative research, and build cross-disciplinary networks. The forum features keynote speakers—prominent figures in academia, public policy, and the nonprofit sector—who provide insights on contemporary societal challenges and emerging trends in the humanities and social sciences. Panel discussions showcase collaborative research, policy impacts, and case studies, encouraging dynamic exchanges on topics ranging from social justice and cultural analysis to public health and education. Additionally, the forum invites guests from the public and nonprofit sectors, including community leaders, policymakers, and advocates, to engage in conversations on how research in social sciences and humanities can influence real-world outcomes. These cross-sectoral dialogues provide opportunities for faculty members to extend their impact beyond academia. With opportunities for networking, mentoring, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, the forum aims to create a thriving intellectual community, bridging scholarship and practice, and fostering relationships that last throughout the academic year.
- Research Outcome Panels
To facilitate focused discussions and share success stories, we can organize 2 panels every year to discuss the outcomes of research in specific topics. These panels are led by researchers and can get the needed support upon request. These events can foster collaboration, dialogue and engagement among scholars, students, and the general public.
