The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors invites you to attend the online industrial workshop entitled:
Moving past sticks and bricks with Construction 4.0
Wednesday, March 3, 2022
Abstract
Due to COVID-19, every sector had to embrace changes supported mainly by technology, irrespective of maturity level. The construction sector was also swept up by this irreversible change seeing a significant acceleration in technology adoption. Couple this with the changes driven by Industry 4.0. The past two years have brought five technological megatrends to the forefront: 1) Prefabrication, offsite construction, and advanced manufacturing, 2) Robotics and automation, 3) Big data and machine learning (ML), 4) Internet of Things (IoT), and digital twins, 5) Real-time data capture using drones, laser scanners, and other devices. Converging these megatrends with the progress already made in building information modeling (BIM) and common data environment (CDE), the construction sector is at an inflection point. A holistic paradigm that combines these emerging trends into a new operating system is needed. In this webinar, the speaker provides Construction 4.0 as this new operating system upon which our sector can continue to innovate. This talk will discuss key concepts, opportunities, and challenges posed by Construction 4.0.
